Kwankwaso Voices Concerns Over US Designation of Nigeria
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former 2023 Presidential Candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party, has articulated notable apprehensions regarding the recent classification of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” by former US President Donald Trump. His sentiments were conveyed through a statement disseminated via his official X account on Sunday.
In his commentary, Kwankwaso stressed that Nigeria, as a sovereign entity, grapples with multifaceted insecurities that do not discriminate based on religion, ethnicity, or political alignment.
He urged the American administration to extend technological support aimed at quelling these threats, rather than exacerbating the situation with intimidating rhetoric.
Kwankwaso remarked, “I have observed with increasing alarm the pronounced concerns from President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria. His classification of our nation as a ‘country of particular concern’ is troubling.”
“It is vital to underscore that Nigeria is a sovereign nation confronting various menaces from lawless elements. The insecurities we endure are indifferent to religious, ethnic, or political affiliations,” he added.
He further suggested, “The United States ought to aid Nigerian authorities by providing advanced technological resources to address these challenges, rather than issuing threats that may polarize our society.”

“Moreover, the Nigerian government should deliberate on appointing esteemed diplomats as special envoys to engage the US administration effectively,” Kwankwaso continued.
“It is equally paramount to designate permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the global stage. This is a pivotal moment for our nation, where we must champion unity over discord,” he concluded.
In related developments, TVC previously reported statements from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Assistant to the President on Information and Strategy. He conveyed that President Bola Tinubu has initiated proactive measures in light of the US designation.
Onanuga noted on X that “in anticipation of the orchestrated narrative emerging from America,” the President, during his inauguration, tasked the newly appointed service chiefs with addressing the imminent challenges ahead.
