Apple Increases iPhone Duo Supply Chain Orders
Reports indicate that Apple has augmented its supply chain orders for the iPhone Duo by 30% just days before consumers can commence paid preorders for the much-anticipated foldable device starting this Friday.
Highlights:
- Apple has reportedly escalated iPhone Duo orders by 30%, although the overall supply for 2026 remains below the 10 million mark.
- Orders for the iPhone 18 Pro Max have surged by 10% to 15%, in contrast to a concurrent reduction in iPhone 18 Pro orders.
- Supply constraints are projected to persist as the $1,999 foldable phone is scheduled for customer delivery on October 23.
Modifications to iPhone Duo Orders
According to supply chain insiders, as reported by a Chinese financial publication on October 10, Apple has revised its orders for the iPhone Duo upwards by 30%, as part of a strategic overhaul of its autumn production agenda.
Despite this increase, total Duo orders for 2026 are expected to remain below 10 million units. Prior estimates suggested a production range between 6 million and 7 million units, leading industry observers to surmise that the new order target is indeed closer to the 10 million threshold.
The same sources indicated that orders for the iPhone 18 Pro Max also saw a rise of 10% to 15%, while orders for the iPhone 18 Pro were curtailed by a similar percentage, leaving the overall production volumes for both models unchanged.
This announcement appears to contradict an earlier report from October 9, which stated that Apple had cut component orders for both Pro models by no less than 15% due to weaker market demand.
With preorders slated to commence imminently, Apple’s Get Ready initiative—launched on Monday—allows potential buyers to finalize their color, storage, trade-in, and carrier choices ahead of the official ordering time, set for 8 a.m. EDT on Friday, with base prices commencing at $1,999.
Supply Chain Insights from Gurman
Tech journalist Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is experiencing tighter supply constraints for the Duo than initially anticipated.
Approximately two months ago, the company expressed concerns that production limitations might necessitate delaying sales until late November.
Fortunately, they have since managed to amass sufficient inventory to ensure a timely launch, although stock availability will still be restricted, Gurman cautioned.
Projections surrounding the Duo’s performance have fluctuated considerably over recent months.
On July 2, reports emerged indicating that Apple had requested suppliers to produce approximately 10 million foldable devices for 2026, an increase from anterior forecasts of 7 million to 8 million.

In mid-September, market analyst Jeff Pu revised his shipment estimate for 2026 downward to 6 million units from a previous 7 million, citing challenges in achieving large-scale production of the device’s hinge mechanism.
As of September 17, assembly yields at Foxconn were reportedly just above 60%, according to insiders familiar with the situation.
