Apple Unveils Revolutionary iPhone 17 Pro Model
Apple has officially launched the iPhone 17 Pro, a groundbreaking addition to its product line that heralds significant changes. Notably, the eSIM-exclusive variants feature batteries with larger capacities than their traditional Nano SIM counterparts.
This marks the inaugural instance of Apple offering distinct battery sizes tailored to specific markets.
The eSIM versions of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max play a pivotal role in the burgeoning eSIM marketplace. Countries such as Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the U.S., and the U.S. Virgin Islands are among the first recipients.
During the launch event in September, Apple disclosed that the space vacated by the elimination of the Nano SIM tray has been repurposed for a larger battery.
The 17 Pro equipped with eSIM boasts a robust 4,252mAh battery, outperforming the standard 3,998mAh of the traditional Nano SIM model.
According to Apple, this enhancement is projected to yield approximately two additional hours of video playback.
However, other activities such as web browsing, voice calls, and gaming are also expected to benefit from this battery upgrade.
Unofficial evaluations indicate that the eSIM 17 Pro achieved an admirable Active Use Score of 16 hours and 12 minutes, an improvement of 49 minutes over the Nano SIM variant.
Call endurance was similarly impressive, reaching a total of 24 hours and 1 minute, thereby surpassing the physical SIM version by 47 minutes.
Notably, the most significant advantages emerged during web browsing, where the eSIM model excelled with 13 hours and 41 minutes—an additional hour compared to its Nano SIM sibling.
Gaming capabilities also saw a boost, recording a maximum of 10 hours and 58 minutes, translating to a 44-minute enhancement.
In contrast, results for video streaming were relatively unchanged, with the eSIM recording 22 hours and 40 minutes against the Nano SIM’s 22 hours and 47 minutes, falling short of Apple’s stated two-hour advantage.
The eSIM iPhone 17 Pro garnered a 5.3% higher Active Use Score compared to the physical SIM variant, illustrating its superior performance.
Web browsing and gaming experiences emerged as the most noteworthy beneficiaries of this upgrade, while video playback yielded only marginal improvements.
Some industry analysts speculate that Apple may eventually phase out physical SIM cards entirely, which would enable uniform battery capacities across regions.
Future innovations, such as silicon-carbon battery technology, could further extend device longevity; however, there are currently no official announcements regarding the timeline for implementing such advancements.
