India’s Smartphone Exports to the US Surge Amid Geopolitical Challenges

New Delhi: In a remarkable display of resilience, India’s smartphone exports to the United States have experienced a stunning increase, more than tripling year-on-year (YoY) to reach $1.47 billion in October, as indicated by recent government statistics.

In stark contrast, October of the previous year saw exports tallying a mere $0.46 billion.

The data reveal a striking recovery in smartphone exports to the US this fiscal year, with totals soaring to $10.78 billion from April to October, a significant leap from $3.60 billion during the corresponding timeframe last year.

Initially, the export momentum was strong, with $1.65 billion recorded in April and $2.29 billion in May. However, shipments experienced a decline mid-year, dropping to $1.99 billion in June, $1.52 billion in July, $0.96 billion in August, and $0.88 billion in September.

This sequential downturn, however, appears to have stabilized, bolstered by resilient demand for Indian smartphones. The uptick in exports occurs amidst tariff-related uncertainties in the US, which have posed challenges regarding pricing and consumer sentiment.

Notably, year-on-year comparisons indicate consistent growth in shipments to the US, starting from $0.66 billion in April last year, then climbing to $0.76 billion in May, $0.59 billion in June, $0.49 billion in July, $0.39 billion in August, and $0.26 billion in September.

On a global scale, India’s smartphone exports have also shown significant improvement, surging by 49.35 percent to $15.95 billion in the April–October 2025 period compared to $10.68 billion in the same prior timeframe.

Throughout this period, growth remained robust in double digits, characterized by notable increases in May (66.54 percent to $2.96 billion), June (66.61 percent to $2.68 billion), and September (82.27 percent to $1.68 billion), highlighting India’s expanding prominence within global supply chains.

In a report released earlier last month, the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) estimated that India’s smartphone exports exceeded $1.8 billion in September, reflecting an impressive year-on-year growth exceeding 95 percent relative to the previous September.

While August and September typically represent lower export periods for the mobile sector due to production adjustments and seasonal shipping patterns, the exports in September 2025 remained extraordinarily robust. This demonstrates the resilient ecosystem that has been cultivated within the nation, the report asserts.

Such strong export figures underscore India’s growing competitive edge in global value chains, affirming its position in international markets.
