Indian Envoy Engages with US Senator on Energy, Technology, and Innovation
Washington, December 11 — Vinay Mohan Kwatra, India’s Ambassador to the United States, convened with Senator Brian Schatz, a prominent member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Deputy Secretary of the Senate Democratic Conference.
Their discussion centred on enhancing bilateral engagement between India and the United States, specifically in the realms of energy, technology, and innovation.
Kwatra expressed his appreciation for the meeting on social media, noting, “It was a pleasure to meet with Senator Brian Schatz. We exchanged insights on our ongoing defence collaborations and explored avenues for a deeper India-US engagement in energy, technology, and innovation, alongside key regional developments.”
In addition, Ambassador Kwatra held discussions with US Representative Dina Titus, focusing on various facets of the partnership, including technology, tourism, and trade.
Following their encounter, Kwatra remarked, “I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Representative Dina Titus. We covered essential aspects of our partnership: trade, technology, and tourism. I am grateful for her unwavering support in fortifying relations between our nations.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Rick Switzer, the newly appointed US Deputy Trade Representative, arrived in India for high-stakes dialogues with senior officials and met with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The discussions with Misri revolved around the extensive India-US economic and technological partnership as well as ongoing trade negotiations, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA conveyed, “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged with US Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer, focusing on the robust economic and technological partnership, current trade negotiations, and opportunities to bolster bilateral trade and establish resilient supply chains.”
The visit of the US delegation led by Switzer and chief trade negotiator Brendan Lynch has rekindled optimism regarding the impending conclusion of the India-US trade pact.
On December 9, foreign office consultations took place between India and the US, addressing key bilateral matters, including trade and investment, defence collaboration, the TRUST initiative, energy cooperation—encompassing civil nuclear collaboration—technology, critical minerals, and reliable supply chains, according to a statement from the MEA.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri co-chaired the meeting with US Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker. They deliberated on significant regional and global developments of mutual interest, reasserting their dedication to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The MEA further stated, “Both parties acknowledged the consistent progress across existing dialogue mechanisms and agreed to accelerate the implementation of the ‘Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce and Technology (COMPACT) for the 21st Century,’ aimed at driving transformative cooperation across pivotal elements of the partnership.”
