Strengthening Indo-US Technological Collaboration

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an effort to bolster cooperation in technology and artificial intelligence, officials from India and the United States convened a high-profile roundtable in Silicon Valley last week.

Government representatives and industry leaders underscored the urgency of translating policy intentions into tangible actions.

This exclusive gathering was orchestrated by the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, in partnership with NASSCOM, and attracted senior technology executives, venture capitalists, and academic scholars from both nations.

Titled “India–US Technology Partnership: From Strategic Intent to Execution,” the discourse primarily centered on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on global trade, labor dynamics, and cross-border innovation.

Attendees characterized artificial intelligence as a pivotal evolution within the global economy, highlighting the necessity for enhanced collaboration among government, industry, and academia. Such synergies, they argued, are vital for fostering inclusive and sustainable growth as AI adoption accelerates across various sectors.

The NASSCOM delegation’s visit to the San Francisco Bay Area formed part of the NASSCOM U.S. CEO Forum initiative. Key figures from the Indian technology landscape joined this cohort, representing a dozen prominent companies operating within the United States.

India’s Consul General in San Francisco connected the technological dialogue to broader geopolitical and economic trends, referencing a freshly concluded India–U.S. trade agreement.

This pact will notably reduce U.S. tariffs on Indian goods from 50 percent to 18 percent. Concurrently, India is set to lower or eliminate tariffs on select American products.

Officials described the agreement as a catalyst for boosting bilateral trade, with ambitions to achieve $500 billion in combined goods and services trade by 2030—a target established by leaders of both nations in February 2025.

NASSCOM’s leadership accentuated the increasing significance of Indian technology companies in driving global digital transformation. They outlined these firms’ roles in fostering innovation, propelling economic growth, and generating employment within the United States.

The challenges and opportunities posed by generative AI, particularly regarding future collaborations between Indian and American enterprises, were also addressed.

Participants cited projections indicating that Indian technology companies support numerous jobs across the United States and contribute approximately $103 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product, highlighting the sector’s expansive economic influence.

The roundtable further examined how Indian IT services and software-as-a-service firms could evolve in an AI-centric landscape. Speakers advocated for new business models, extensive workforce reskilling, and a transition to outcome-driven, AI-enhanced service delivery.

The session also promoted a “triple helix” framework involving government, industry, and academia. Participants stressed that cohesive efforts in skill development, workforce transition, and curriculum innovations are crucial for remaining attuned to the rapid pace of technological advancement.
