The estimated 600,000 Americans who invested in a gold-plated smartphone associated with former President Donald Trump are poised to finally receive their long-anticipated device.
A year has elapsed since the initial announcement and receipt of deposits for the Trump Mobile T1, which is now ready for shipment.
Retailing at $499, the Trump Mobile T1 bears a striking resemblance to the T-Mobile REVVL 7 Pro 5G, a Chinese-manufactured smartphone that previously sold for under $200 at Walmart in the United States.
Notably, the new device will feature a reduced screen size and diminished memory compared to earlier specifications; however, the signature golden exterior—an emblematic trait of Trump’s branding—remains intact, as reported by CNN.
Multiple Delays in Release
Upon the device’s initial announcement, approximately 600,000 consumers placed a $100 deposit to reserve the Trump Mobile smartphone, a venture spearheaded by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
The release of the T1 has faced numerous postponements, shifting from an expected launch in August to a later date in October 2025, with no definitive timeline thereafter, according to The Daily Beast.
In a quietly revised pre-order policy, Trump Mobile informed potential customers that the $100 deposit does not guarantee the production or availability of the device.
Instead, it has been characterized as a “conditional opportunity” to purchase the phone should the company move forward with its market release, as noted by Fortune.
This series of delays and the absence of updates have incited frustration among Trump supporters, who expressed their discontent on social media platforms.
On Tuesday, after an extended silence of over six months, Trump Mobile announced via Facebook that shipments of the T1 would commence “this week.” Notably, consumer commentary was disabled for the announcement.
The company attributed the delays to essential preparatory measures required to ensure a successful market entry.
“In our perspective, the delays were justified as we are delivering an outstanding product,” stated Trump Mobile CEO Pat O’Brien in an interview with USA Today.
In a separate conversation with CNN, O’Brien elaborated on the complexities of the tech industry, emphasizing the necessity of rigorous quality testing for components.
“Given the overwhelming demand, we are expediting orders to the best of our ability, and we expect to complete all shipments in the coming weeks,” he added.
Controversy Over Manufacturing Claims
Initially, Trump Mobile asserted that the Android device would be “Made in the USA,” a claim that was swiftly amended to reflect the phone was “designed with American values in mind.”
Following this altered statement, a Trump Mobile post on X was met with community scrutiny, revealing that the T1 is essentially a repackaged T-Mobile REVVL 7 Pro 5G produced by the Chinese tech firms Wingtech and Luxshare in factories located in Jiaxing, Wuxi, and Kunming.
The data and voice plans associated with Trump Mobile will be priced at $47.45 per month, presumably a nod to Trump’s connections with the numbers 47 and 45, representing his terms in office as the 47th and 45th U.S. presidents.
