International conglomerates, including tech titans such as Apple and Samsung, have significantly benefited from India’s $21 billion production-linked incentive program. This initiative was orchestrated to stimulate large-scale electronics manufacturing and mitigate reliance on foreign imports.
The PLI scheme has catalyzed Apple’s gradual expansion of its manufacturing footprint in India. Initially, the company focused on local assembly of more affordable iPhone models, but has since escalated to producing some of its most advanced and costly models domestically.

The overarching objective of the government is to elevate India’s electronics manufacturing industry to a valuation of $500 billion by the fiscal year 2030.
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology officials have already commenced discussions with industry leaders to craft the new incentive framework, as noted by an industry executive referenced by Reuters.
