Ajay Kumar, on the brink of commencing a new position in Kuwait, found himself stranded when his flight, departing from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, was cancelled for the fifth consecutive day.

A resident of Lucknow, Kumar lamented this unfortunate turn of events, asserting that he not only forfeited his employment opportunity but also incurred financial damages amounting to ₹2 lakh.

“I lost about ₹2 lakh. Both my flights, first to Mumbai and then to Kuwait, have been cancelled… My job is gone, my tickets are gone, and no one is providing a clear answer,” he expressed, his distress palpable as he characterised the airline personnel’s conduct as ‘rude’.

In a similar plight, Sharif travelled from Bengaluru to Lucknow for a wedding and has frequented the airport for three consecutive days. “They are offering me two choices—either cancel my flight or reschedule for December 8.

However, even the flight on December 8 is not guaranteed to depart,” he revealed. “I’m covering the hotel expenses myself. There’s no assistance from IndiGo.”

The situation at Lucknow airport escalated into chaos on Sunday, with a staggering 22 flights cancelled, leaving numerous passengers stranded and bewildered.

Despite the turmoil, the expected throngs at the IndiGo counters appeared sparse. Airport officials remarked that they were “monitoring the situation closely.”

Yet, IndiGo staff provided scant clarification regarding the reasons for the persistent cancellations, as passengers remained in limbo, many waiting for days for information regarding the resumption of standard operations.

Reports indicate that IndiGo’s online portal suggested that flights were operational. Boarding passes were issued and available for download, only for passengers to face cancellations upon arrival at the airport. Sanjay, who travelled with his wife and one-year-old child, recounted being delayed in Ayodhya until 11 PM on Saturday, only to be directed to Lucknow for a “rescheduled” flight that failed to materialise. “We have no relatives here. We’re wandering in the cold with a baby and no support,” he stated.
