Chief Minister Envisions Tripura as an IT Hub of the Northeast

Agartala, 29th January 2026: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha articulated the state government’s ambition to catalyze the information technology sector’s development in Tripura, alongside broader advancements across various domains.

“Our vision is to establish Tripura as the preeminent information technology nucleus within the North Eastern region in the forthcoming years. With this objective at the forefront, we are striving to inaugurate the largest data center in the area,” he affirmed.

Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha made these remarks during the foundation-laying ceremony and bhoomi pujan for the Airtel Data Center’s construction at Chanmari.

During his address, Dr. Saha emphasized that Tripura is rapidly evolving from a model state into the apex of performance among its peers.

“Should this data center materialize, it will be instrumental in providing opportunities for the unemployed youth of our state, particularly those engaged in government sectors, private enterprises, and social media platforms.

This initiative is a timely and strategic move by the state government. For this purpose, the state has allocated one acre of land to Airtel for developing the data center. Its establishment will fortify the IT landscape and attract further industrial investments,” he asserted.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that a substantial number of Tripura’s residents living outside the state and abroad are linked to the IT industry.

We aim to encourage these individuals to invest back into Tripura. The conducive environment for IT ventures has attracted interest from numerous investment firms, including Airtel, M/s. PVM Invensys Private Limited, M/s. Polo Towers Group, and M/s. C.T.R.L.S., all looking to establish data centers here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the necessity of amplifying the number of advanced data centers across the nation. These facilities are crucial not only for economic growth but also for enhancing our national cybersecurity, he remarked.
