Clemson University’s artificial intelligence (AI) team has successfully concluded its participation in the 2024–25 American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Institute focused on AI, pedagogy, and curriculum development. This national initiative brought together various institutions dedicated to the thoughtful incorporation of AI into educational frameworks.
The Clemson AI team, which comprises a diverse array of leadership, faculty, and academic support, undertook a comprehensive survey of instructors regarding AI’s role in teaching. They facilitated workshops and discussions that engaged hundreds of colleagues across the campus.
These activities have ignited vital dialogues concerning AI’s potential to enhance critical thinking, foster creativity, and promote responsible innovation in educational settings.
Building upon this groundwork, the Clemson AI team is formulating strategies that align with the University’s Clemson Elevate strategic framework, aimed at:
- Establishing guiding principles for AI integration throughout the campus.
- Enhancing AI literacy among students and faculty.
- Encouraging ethical and impactful applications of AI in teaching and learning.
- Cultivating a University-wide network to spur innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
We are dedicated to leveraging this experience to forge positive and meaningful connections across departments, schools, and units as we collaborate around new avenues for innovation and transformation.

Looking forward, the team plans to unveil additional campus-wide events, collaborative dialogues, and learning opportunities in early fall. These initiatives aim to fortify Clemson’s leadership and redefine how higher education embraces the prospects and challenges presented by AI.
Their recent initiatives have facilitated responsible AI integration among Clemson faculty in their courses. As technology progresses, the development of a cohesive, secure, and systemic AI strategy for the entire University community is paramount.
