Dutch Marketplace Bol Unveils New 3PL Ecosystem
Bol, the prominent Dutch online marketplace, is set to introduce a novel category within its ecosystem: third-party fulfillment, commonly referred to as 3PL.
This significant initiative aims to partner with logistics firms that can provide support to sellers by offering warehouse facilities and facilitating order processing.
Presently, sellers are limited to outsourcing fulfillment exclusively to Bol, but forthcoming enhancements will permit them to engage with other fulfillment entities within this expansive network.
Enhancing Logistics Services
For over a decade, Bol has actively supplied logistics solutions to its partner sellers through a service known as ‘Logistics via Bol.’
This platform allows sellers to dispatch their products to Bol’s warehouses, from which they are then shipped. The impending integration of external fulfillment partners marks a pivotal evolution in Bol’s logistics strategy.
Strategic 3PL Partnerships
Although the announcement regarding 3PL initiatives was not made via a formal press release, it became apparent through a recent job advertisement for an Ecosystem Partnership Manager in Logistics.
The principal objective for this role is to “launch 3PL partnerships as an additional shipping option for sales partners.”
This new hire will be tasked with forging strategic alliances with third-party logistics providers, ensuring enhanced efficiency and expediting the delivery process for Bol’s customers.
‘The new employee will search for the best 3PL players in the market.’
The job listing details the essential criteria: “You will search for the best 3PL players in the market. Who delivers the most added value for our partners, our customers, and for us?”
The appointed manager will be responsible for encouraging adoption among sales partners, both domestic and international, transcending the European continent.
Currently, Bol collaborates with QLS to provide third-party logistics to approximately 1,000 international partners. Soon, this capability will expand to encompass all 45,000 sales partners within its ecosystem.
Enhanced Delivery Options for Select
The imperative for expedited delivery remains central to Bol’s strategy, as highlighted in the job posting. Timely deliveries directly correlate with heightened customer satisfaction for both Bol and its partners. Those utilizing the 3PL network are expected to enjoy benefits akin to those currently available through Logistics via Bol.
It is likely that partner sellers using the fulfillment network will take advantage of benefits.
This enhancement would afford their customers access to delivery options associated with the Select program, which includes complimentary shipping and the option to select delivery time slots without additional charges. Such improvements are poised to bolster sales opportunities for partner sellers.
Planned New Warehouse in the Netherlands
Bol anticipates commencing construction on a new warehouse in Lelystad, Netherlands, later this year. Following the acquisition of land in 2022, the growth trajectory for Bol has been somewhat less than initially projected.
The development will unfold in phases, as the establishment of a network of external fulfillment partners is expected to diminish the demand for Bol’s own warehouse space.
Last Mile Logistics Innovations

Simultaneously, Bol is enhancing its proprietary logistics services for the final mile—the crucial link between the warehouse and the end customer. Bol’s subsidiary, Ampère, facilitates the collection of parcels from partner sellers utilizing the Sending via Bol service.
Furthermore, Ampère has established a drop-off network that allows smaller sales partners to deliver parcels conveniently.
Fulfillment companies, retailers, and online stores with available warehouse space serve as designated drop-off points.
Ampère transports the collected parcels to courier logistics centers such as PostNL or its own facilities, with a growing network of such centers. Additionally, Ampère is undertaking direct deliveries to customers in select urban locales across the Netherlands.
