Apple Revamps Advertising Policies for Maps
Apple has instituted revisions to its advertising protocols, prohibiting a range of business categories from promoting themselves on Apple Maps.
This prohibition encompasses home service providers such as plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, HVAC technicians, pest control services, roofers, and general contractors, as well as cryptocurrency ATMs and bail bond services.
According to the recently unveiled Apple Advertising Services News and Stocks, Maps, and Sports Programming Policies, these new regulations came into force on July 14.
Coinciding with these changes is Apple’s strategic move to introduce advertisements within Apple Maps across the United States and Canada later this summer. While the feature has been publicized, a precise launch date remains unconfirmed.
Impacted Businesses under the New Apple Maps Advertising Policy
The newly implemented regulations specifically targeting Apple Maps dictate that advertisements should not “contain or directly or indirectly promote home services—encompassing, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, locksmith, HVAC, pest control, roofing, or general contracting services.”
Moreover, advertisements advocating for cryptocurrency ATMs and bail bond services are similarly prohibited. While medical service advertisements are not outright banned, Apple will assess them “on a case-by-case basis.”
These restrictions on Apple Maps align with the broader advertising policies applicable to News, Stocks, Maps, and Sports programming.
The overarching guidelines also deter deceptive advertising practices, political advertisements, promotions of weapons and controlled substances, violence, defamatory content, and other restricted categories.
Apple previously indicated that Maps advertisements would commence in the United States and Canada this summer.
According to the organization, search outcomes in Apple Maps will reveal a single sponsored entity, distinguished by a small blue halo surrounding its map pin, labeled as an advertisement within the Suggested Places list.
Additionally, Apple assured users that the data concerning advertisements they interact with remains stored on the device and is neither collected by the company nor disseminated to third parties.
In a recent blog post, Apple articulated, These policies elucidate what is and isn’t permissible when advertising your content with Apple’s advertising services.
This information is not intended as legal advice. Compliance does not necessarily ensure alignment with state, provincial, or federal laws. Apple encourages each advertiser and its agency to seek counsel from legal professionals.
Upon engaging with Apple’s video, display, and maps advertising inventory, adherence to the stipulated policies is imperative.

Any violation of these guidelines could render a business ineligible to utilize Apple’s advertising services. The company retains the authority to amend these policies and to approve, reject, or remove any ad content at its sole discretion.
Nevertheless, the company has refrained from commenting on the newly issued Maps advertising regulations or revealing when the advertising program will be accessible to businesses.
