Apple to Revamp iPhone Lineup with iPhone 17 Air and Future Innovations
In a daring departure from tradition, Apple is set to overhaul its iPhone series for the first time in years with the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air. Recent reports indicate that the tech titan from Cupertino has devised an ambitious three-year strategy aimed at rolling out transformative iPhone models, culminating in the visionary iPhone 18 Fold and the commemorative 20th-anniversary edition.
As revealed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple intends to “reinvigorate its flagship phone,” with plans to unveil a distinctive iPhone each year until 2027. The inaugural model of this new era, the iPhone 17 Air, is anticipated to fill the shoes of the iPhone 17 Plus while boasting a smaller battery, achieved through a sleeker design.
However, the monumental shift is projected for the following year with the debut of the iPhone 18 Fold, Apple’s inaugural foray into the foldable smartphone market. This device is expected to feature a book-style design, equipped with a 5.5-inch outer display and an expansive 7.8-inch interior screen, as articulated by supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Gurman has emphasized that the device will include a sophisticated quad-camera array featuring two selfie cameras—one on the exterior and one within—and two rear-facing cameras.
Additionally, the iPhone 18 Fold will herald the return of Touch ID and incorporate Apple’s latest C2 modem. Notably, the device will eliminate the traditional SIM card tray entirely, a move that could extend to international models given the constraints of internal space.
The release for the 18 Fold is projected for fall 2026, coinciding with the broader 18 lineup.
Looking ahead, the iPhone 20 promises to commemorate the 20th anniversary of iPhones. Gurman has disclosed that this model will “finally diverge from the rectangular design that has defined our experience since 2020,” transitioning instead to a design aesthetic featuring curved glass edges. This all-encompassing curvature is expected to align seamlessly with the Liquid Glass theme introduced in iOS 26.
Beyond these flagship devices, Apple is set to unveil a host of highly anticipated gadgets, including a HomePod equipped with a display, an enhanced Apple TV box, refreshed iPad Pros, and MacBooks featuring the M5 chipset.
