As September approaches, Apple’s iPhone lineup is poised for a significant transformation. The tech giant is on the verge of announcing its highly anticipated keynote event, set to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its inaugural foldable model.
In anticipation of this announcement, retailers are actively slashing prices on the iPhone 17 series, thus providing financially savvy consumers with a fleeting opportunity to secure last year’s premium model before supplies are depleted and prices rise.
Substantial Price Reductions for iPhone 17 Series
A host of retailers, including Amazon UK and John Lewis, have enacted considerable price reductions across nearly all iPhone 17 models, excluding the iPhone 17e.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max now retails at approximately USD 1,407, a decrease from USD 1,535, yielding a savings of around USD 128.
The standard iPhone 17 Pro has seen its price drop from USD 1,407 to USD 1,279, while the entry-level iPhone 17 is available for USD 959, reduced by USD 64.
Notably, the iPhone 17 Air has experienced the most dramatic reduction, plummeting by USD 256 to USD 1,023.
Unlocked iPhones have undergone similar markdowns in Spain, Germany, and Australia since early summer, with the UK now joining the discount trend.
In a strategic move ahead of the impending launch, Apple has increased trade-in values. The iPhone 16 Pro Max can now command up to USD 720 in the US market, a rise from its previous value of USD 695.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro has seen the most substantial increase, soaring from USD 560 to USD 630. Even the older iPhone 11 has appreciated in value, currently worth as much as USD 110.
Anticipated Timeline for iPhone 18 Pro Launch
Concurrently, Apple’s next generation of smartphones is merely weeks away from revelation. The company is anticipated to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first-ever foldable device this September, alongside new iterations of the Apple Watch. Historically, Apple announces its September event precisely two weeks in advance.
However, this year, with Labor Day falling on Monday, September 7, it is customary for Apple to refrain from scheduling keynotes immediately following a holiday weekend.
As a result, analysts are projecting, including insights from Bloomberg, that the keynote event may occur on Wednesday, September 9, though some are still speculating a potential announcement on Tuesday, September 8.
Following Apple’s established practice, pre-orders are likely to commence the Friday subsequent to the event, around September 11, with the official launch of the new models occurring the following week on September 18.
Interestingly, it is anticipated that the baseline iPhone 18 will not debut this year, as Apple seeks to streamline its offerings given the addition of the foldable variant.
Is It Time to Buy or Should You Wait?
Given the escalating costs of components due to a persistent RAM shortage, the iPhone 18 Pro is predicted to be priced higher than its predecessor, potentially increasing by USD 100 to USD 200.
Consequently, the discounted iPhone 17 series presents an attractive option for those not exclusively interested in the latest technological advancements.
However, the current price reductions appear primarily aimed at clearing inventory, meaning that sought-after models could soon sell out before any further discounts materialize.

For individuals considering an upgrade, experts advise initiating the sale of their existing iPhones without delay, as resale values typically plummet sharply following a new iPhone announcement.
Pro and Pro Max models are expected to depreciate by USD 190 to USD 385 within weeks of the iPhone 18 Pro’s launch.
