What’s New in iOS 26.4

Apple states, “This update rolls out Playlist Playground and Concerts within Apple Music, accompanied by 8 new emoji as well as a variety of features, bug fixes, and security enhancements for your iPhone.”

The release notes delineate 13 specific features and enhancements:

Apple Music

Playlist Playground (beta) curates a playlist based on your description, complete with a title, description, and track selection.

Concerts assists in discovering local performances from artists in your library while recommending new artists based on your preferences.

Offline Music Recognition within the Control Center identifies songs even without internet connectivity, delivering results once you reconnect.

An Ambient Music widget for Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing presents curated playlists directly on the Home Screen.

Full-screen backgrounds enhance the immersive experience on album and playlist pages.

Accessibility

The Reduce Bright Effects setting minimizes glaring flashes when tapping on elements such as buttons.

Subtitle and caption settings are now easily accessible via the captions icon while viewing media, simplifying customization and preview options.

The Reduce Motion feature more effectively curtails Liquid Glass animations for users sensitive to screen movement.

This update also incorporates the following enhancements:

8 new emoji, including an orca, trombone, landslide, ballet dancer, and distorted face, are now available on the emoji keyboard.

The Freeform application has been upgraded with advanced image creation and editing tools and includes a premium content library, aligning with Apple Creator Studio.

Users can now mark reminders as urgent using the Quick Toolbar or by pressing and holding, with filtering options for urgent reminders in Smart Lists.

Purchase Sharing enables adult members in Family Sharing configurations to utilize their own payment methods for transactions, independent of the family organizer.

Enhanced keyboard accuracy has been implemented for quicker typing experiences.

Moving forward, anticipation mounts for the initial beta release of iOS 26.5. This subsequent software update is expected to unveil a range of new Siri and Apple Intelligence features, leveraging Google’s Gemini AI models.

Earlier this year, Apple secured an agreement with Google to integrate Gemini technology for Personal Intelligence and other functionalities first previewed in June 2024.

Wooden letter tiles on a table spell out GOOGLE in the back row and GEMINI in the front row.

As we look further ahead, Apple is also poised to introduce novel AI features in iOS 27.

iOS 27 is slated for preview at WWDC 2026 in June, with development continuing throughout the summer before the official rollout to the public in September.
