Apple Implements Job Cuts in Global Sales Division
Apple has undertaken a significant reduction of personnel within its global sales team. As reported by Bloomberg, employees were notified of these layoffs over the past fortnight.
The focus of the job cuts was primarily on teams that oversee sales to large enterprises, educational institutions, and government agencies. The precise number of positions eliminated remains undisclosed.
The layoffs have impacted various segments within Apple’s sales organization. Notable among those affected are account managers who liaise directly with substantial corporate clients, universities, and governmental bodies.
Additionally, individuals responsible for operating Apple’s briefing centers, where new products are showcased to key customers, were also among those let go. While Apple has confirmed the restructuring of its corporate sales framework, specific details were not disclosed.
A spokesperson from Apple conveyed to Bloomberg that the company is “making adjustments to our sales team to enhance customer outreach. This situation impacts a limited number of roles.
We are still actively hiring, and affected personnel are encouraged to seek other opportunities within Apple.” The report highlighted that even some senior managers with two to three decades of experience were impacted.
Displaced employees have until January 20 to secure another position within the company; otherwise, they will be officially laid off and will receive severance benefits. Currently, Apple is advertising several sales roles and is encouraging affected staff to apply.
This reorganization occurs against a backdrop of strong financial performance, as Apple reports significant revenue growth—the fastest in years. Predictions indicate an anticipated revenue of nearly USD 140 billion for the December quarter.
Furthermore, the company is in the process of developing an affordable laptop aimed at stimulating demand in the business and education sectors for the early part of the next year.
The recent layoffs follow similar job cuts in Australia and New Zealand, where approximately 20 sales positions were recently eliminated.
Historically, Apple has been cautious with large-scale layoffs, with CEO Tim Cook emphasizing that such decisions are made only when absolutely essential. Nonetheless, the company faces mounting pressure to streamline its operations.
