Disbursements Underway for Apple’s $95 Million Settlement Regarding Siri Privacy Violations
This week, individuals who submitted claims last summer may notice a beneficial influx of funds in their bank accounts as payments commence from Apple’s substantial $95 million settlement.
In recent days, numerous consumers have reported the receipt of settlement checks stemming from a significant class action lawsuit that accused Apple’s Siri voice assistant of clandestinely listening to private conversations without user consent.
Members of the settlement class are now observing deposits ranging from $8 to $40 in their accounts. For those who filed a claim by the deadline in July 2025, payments began arriving on January 23.
The case originated from a 2021 class action lawsuit initiated by Fumiko Lopez, a resident of California, who owned multiple Apple products.
Lopez alleged that Apple, along with Siri-enabled devices, “intentionally accessed” communications without proper authorization and unlawfully recorded them, even when users had not activated Siri or uttered the trigger phrase “Hey, Siri.”
Moreover, Lopez contended that recorded conversations were shared with third-party entities, which subsequently bombarded consumers with targeted advertising through Apple’s search platform and the Safari web browser.
For example, plaintiffs noted they were inundated with advertisements for “Olive Garden” and “Air Jordans” following casual mentions of these brands in proximity to their Apple devices.
As detailed on the settlement website, Apple refutes all allegations articulated in the lawsuit, asserting that it has committed no wrongdoing.
Eligibility for the settlement extends to Apple customers who were either current or former owners of Siri devices in the United States from September 17, 2014, to December 31, 2024, and whose private communications were purportedly accessed by the company and transmitted to third parties.
Settlement Payment Amounts
The specific amount received by claimants will depend on the total number of claims filed, entitling participants to a pro rata share of the settlement, capped at $20 per device. Eligible participants may submit claims for up to five Siri devices.
Reports from settlement class members on a Reddit thread suggest many received approximately $8 for each Siri device, with payouts ranging from $8.02 to a maximum of $40.10.
Some users indicated they received amounts like $24.06 or $16.04. Conversely, others reported receiving just $8.02 despite submitting claims for multiple devices.
Some individuals have yet to receive their payouts either through PayPal or the virtual gift card they opted for. The settlement website encourages claimants to exhibit patience, as the process of distributing payments may take some time.
Digital checks will be dispatched via email, and recipients are advised to scrutinize their spam folders. If a claimant selected to receive payment through a digital check and does not see an email within a week, they should reach out to the settlement administrator for support.
