Amazon has revealed its plan to allocate an additional $1.9 billion towards its Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program in the upcoming year, which will see the introduction of innovative AI-driven delivery solutions and advanced safety technologies.
This latest financial commitment elevates Amazon’s cumulative investment in the DSP program to a staggering $21.7 billion since its inception eight years ago.
The e-commerce giant articulated that this extra funding will empower DSP operators to enhance driver compensation, aiming for a national average wage of nearly $24 per hour within the United States.
Moreover, Amazon unveiled a suite of technological enhancements intended to bolster delivery efficacy and enhance safety measures.
Key among these upgrades is Wellspring, a cutting-edge generative AI mapping platform that perpetually refines its ability to generate precise location data by learning from each delivery.
Since its rollout in 2024, the tool has successfully identified over 202 million parking spots, mapped 2.8 million building entrances, and cataloged 85,000 mailrooms and parcel lockers, thereby facilitating quicker address identification for delivery personnel.
Additionally, Amazon is amplifying its AI-enhanced route optimization technology, which alters delivery pathways in real-time based on a myriad of factors, including traffic patterns, inclement weather, diminished visibility during nighttime, and parking accessibility.
The company intends to further proliferate its Smart Delivery Glasses, wearable devices designed for hands-free navigation, address verification, and package scanning through advanced computer vision technology. Anticipations suggest that over 20,000 pairs will be operational by the conclusion of 2027.
The latest iteration of these glasses is equipped with an integrated LED headlamp, hands-free barcode scanning capabilities, and proactive address verification, enabling drivers to maintain focus on their environment rather than diverting attention to handheld devices.
In terms of safety advancements, Amazon has invested more than $543 million in safety initiatives since 2022.
The company reported that these investments, complemented by efforts from delivery partners, have contributed to a noteworthy 23 percent decrease in serious vehicle collisions across its network last year.
New safety technologies now include surround-view cameras adept at detecting nearby vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians surrounding delivery vans. This system is projected to be integrated into half of Amazon’s fleet of Rivian electric delivery vehicles by year’s end.
Furthermore, drivers will receive dynamic hazard alerts through the Amazon Delivery App, offering real-time notifications regarding road closures, accidents, and construction, with navigation promptly rerouting journeys in case of severe weather or hazardous circumstances.
The application of AI extends to data harvested from in-vehicle safety cameras, wherein driving behaviors that may heighten the risk of accidents are identified, allowing DSP operators to furnish preventative coaching before incidents transpire.
In addition to operational enhancements, Amazon has allocated $70 million over the coming five years to support community initiatives spearheaded by delivery partners.
This funding aims to bolster programs like Amazon Local Good, which leverages the company’s delivery network to transport donated items to charitable organizations at no cost.
In 2025, participating delivery partners managed to accomplish 4,800 charity delivery routes, distributing over 8 million essential items and 4 million meals.

Amazon anticipates that this latest investment will facilitate the delivery of more than 150 million essential items within the next five years.
