Blockchain Integration for Degrees at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University
Lucknow: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University is poised to confer approximately 50,000 degrees to its engineering and management graduates, utilizing blockchain technology during the upcoming convocation ceremony on September 9.
This momentous occasion marks the inaugural deployment of blockchain by the university, a decision grounded in the manifold advantages it offers for degree issuance and verification, particularly concerning security, efficiency, and transparency.
As articulated by Ayush Srivastava, the assistant registrar of AKTU, this strategic move facilitates a tamper-proof, decentralized framework for the storage and verification of academic credentials, subsequently streamlining processes for students, educational institutions, and employers alike.
Furthermore, the university will present around 75 gold, silver, and bronze medals to its distinguished students during the ceremony. A preliminary list of medal recipients has already been published, with an invitation for objections to the merit list until Tuesday, after which the final list will be revealed. Additionally, cash awards will be distributed for the Chancellor’s Gold Medal and other categories.
Vice Chancellor JP Pandey elaborated on the innovative digital system, explaining that it establishes and validates academic credentials through a secure computerized database, thereby ensuring authenticity and safeguarding against unauthorized alterations.
He noted, “Blockchain offers a trustworthy method for issuing and managing digital credentials, eliminating potential errors or manipulations within university documents. Students will also have the capability to print their digital degrees as required.”
Addressing the existence of fraudulent activities related to degree mark sheets across various institutions, he emphasized the need for technological enhancement that prompted the university’s transition to blockchain technology.
Pandey further explained that examination and result data for students will be disseminated across multiple servers. Degree mark sheets will be compiled utilizing roll numbers and other unique identifiers. The security measures inherent in the system warrant that data remains protected, even amidst potential security breaches or disruptions affecting individual servers.
Students will be granted login credentials to access and print their degree mark sheets as necessary. “Blockchain significantly boosts the security of degrees and mark sheets through its immutability, transparency, and decentralized verification, rendering it exceedingly challenging to forge or alter records once securely inscribed on the blockchain,” emphasized the Vice Chancellor.
