The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles has unveiled a captivating array of programs for the upcoming fall season. This season’s offerings encompass screenings, exhibitions, and appearances by luminaries that pay homage to cinema as both an art form and a cultural phenomenon.
Among the marquee attractions is the series titled “The Cinematic Worlds of Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer.” This initiative showcases the esteemed works of the acclaimed production designer-set decorator duo. Kicking off on September 3 and continuing until November 28, the series is inspired by the Museum’s exhibit, “Barbie to Anna Karenina: The Cinematic Worlds of Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer,” which will be on display until October 25, 2026.
Another noteworthy series is “Born with Cinema: Gaumont at 130,” which commemorates the illustrious 130-year history of the French studio. Each screening will highlight a different decade of Gaumont’s legacy, beginning on September 11 with Jean-Luc Godard’s celebrated film “Weekend,” and concluding on October 11.
Additional film events include anniversary screenings of “Toy Story” and the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” celebrating their 30th and 50th anniversaries, respectively, on September 21 and 23. This will be complemented by 4K restorations of “Mysterious Skin” and “Heat” on September 19 and 21, along with a festive showing of the cult classic “Born in East L.A.” on September 20 and a 35mm nitrate screening of “Meet Me In St. Louis” on November 1.
Moreover, a screening of “Jaws” on September 14 will herald the debut of the museum’s “Jaws: The Exhibition,” marking the largest exhibit dedicated to Spielberg’s cinematic milestone, set to open on September 26. Guests for these screenings will include industry stalwarts such as Pete Docter, Bonnie Arnold, Michael Mann, and Tim Curry.
Further initiatives encompass “Gallery Spotlight: The Terrordome and Afrofuturism with Ngozi Onwurah,” “The Man Who Made Creatures: Special Effects Wizard Carlo Rambaldi” film series, alongside many standalone screenings. The Museum’s Monster Mash Day on October 25 will offer monster movie screenings, special effects makeup demonstrations, plus appearances by iconic characters such as Frankenstein’s monster.
Additionally, the Museum will host a Free Day on September 28, providing complimentary entry to all general admissions and matinee screenings. While advanced reservations are recommended, standby entry will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In a landmark partnership, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) have announced the inclusion of the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) into the ASWF, which serves as a collaborative platform for open-source software developers within the motion picture industry and beyond.
“ACES has emerged as a cornerstone of contemporary motion picture workflows, fostered through collaborative efforts of filmmakers, technologists, and color scientists across the industry,” stated Annie Chang, VP of Creative Technologies at NBCUniversal. Chang, who is also an Academy Governor and Chair of the Academy’s Science and Technology Council, emphasized that this collaboration will further ACES’ evolution in an open and collegial manner, ultimately benefiting filmmakers worldwide.
David Morin, Executive Director of the Academy Software Foundation, remarked, “The foundation was established to cultivate a vigorous open-source community that can sustain and enhance projects essential to the motion picture industry.
Over the past seven years, we’ve witnessed a significant increase in developer engagement, cross-industry collaboration, and communal adoption of ASWF projects. ACES stands as a vital initiative, and we are privileged to provide a nurturing home where it can flourish.”
As an ASWF project, ACES will be steered by a Technical Steering Committee, comprising seasoned leaders from ACES. The Academy will remain actively engaged in ACES’ development.

The Alliance of Women Directors (AWD) has revealed the esteemed mentors for its 2025 class of the Rising Director Fellowship.
This year’s cohort of mentors features acclaimed talents including Steve McQueen (“Hunger,” “12 Years a Slave”), Reed Morano (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “I Think We’re Alone Now”), Mike Mills (“20th Century Women,” “Beginners”), Niki Caro (“Whale Rider,” “Mulan”), Amber Sealey (“Out of My Mind,” “No Man of God”), Susan Johnson (“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” “Carrie Pilby”), and Erica Tremblay (“Reservation Dogs,” “Dark Winds”).

Goldcrest Post, a leading entity in post-production, has announced the addition of three senior professionals to its expanding picture finishing team: senior colorists Andrew Geary and Anthony Raffaele, along with Senior Vice President J. Eric Camp.
Geary joins Goldcrest from Company 3, where he contributed to post-production on notable series such as HBO’s “The Righteous Gemstones” and Netflix’s “Tires.” His portfolio also includes work on films like “Relay” and “Imaginary.” At Goldcrest, he will assume the role of senior colorist and creative director.

5&2 Studios, the production firm founded by Dallas Jenkins and known for “The Chosen,” has formed a partnership with Slingshot Productions to release the animated Biblical film, “David.”
This animated musical adventure, directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Bawes, explores the narrative of David versus Goliath and the subsequent exploits of the titular hero. The story was conceived at Slingshot, while the animation was executed at Sunrise Animation Studios, featuring Phil Wickham as the voice of David, with production overseen by Rita Mbanga, Steve Pegram, and Tim Keller.
“David” marks Slingshot’s inaugural feature, with 5&2 Studios managing all global distribution and licensing agreements. The studios aim to secure a theatrical distributor, aspiring for a worldwide release in 2025.
