Brevan Howard’s Bangalore Endeavor Encounters Initial Hurdles
As previously reported in May, hedge fund giant Brevan Howard is in the process of establishing a software development center in Bangalore, India. However, this undertaking appears to be accompanied by a few nascent challenges.
Currently, the Bangalore office remains unopened. The firm is actively recruiting with the goal of engaging 100 professionals across various roles. In the interim, they’ve been utilizing contractors; while some of these individuals have been extended full-time employment offers, others have not.
One contractor, who did not receive a permanent position, made headlines last week by sending an email to the entire Bangalore team, including CEO Aron Landy, the Indian Human Resources director, CTO Mike Sanders, and several members of the technology division in Abu Dhabi.
This particular contractor opted not to reply to inquiries concerning his email, which has been reviewed by eFinancialCareers. Within the correspondence, he expresses discontent regarding a message from Brevan Howard’s management, which he perceives as emblematic of “narrow-mindedness” and “malicious intent.”
Furthermore, he pointed out that Indian employees have familial responsibilities. Terminations, he insisted, should be conducted “gracefully.” The crux of effective management, he asserted, lies in understanding the human aspect alongside corporate demands.
The contractor added a cautionary note to senior management, suggesting that those who disregard this humane approach may invite unfavorable consequences. “Do not let your transient authority inflate your ego to the point of ashes,” he concluded.
Brevan Howard has opted to remain silent on the issue. The email’s content has created quite a stir among recipients in India and elsewhere, with some suggesting it may also be a reaction to a tightening of the work-from-home policy. It is unlikely that this missive will alter the employment status of its author.
