RSMonials FAQ – (Error 1054 – Unknown Column ‘ip’)

Subject: RSMonials – Error 1054 when trying to add testimonials via web form.

Eugenio Carmo: Hi there,

I have the latest RS-Monials component (Joomla 3.x) installed in my website but people are unable to submit a testimonial while using the website testimonial submission form at the bottom of the page. Please check the screenshot of the error below:

Support Team: Thank you for your email. In most cases the error you are getting can be solved by the following steps. So please try the following steps and let us know the problem is solved or not.

  1. Make sure you have the latest copy of RSMonials. If no you can download it from our website.
  2. Then uninstall the RSMonials component from your Joomla admin panel. If you already have some testimonials, do not worry, you will not lose those testimonials.
  3. Then install the latest copy of RSMonials component.

If the above steps will not work for you please let us know.

Eugenio Carmo: Thank you for your quick response. I have successfully removed the component, module and menu and re-installed everything. Still, I’m getting a 1054 error when I try to submit a testimonial via the web form. Would you recommend anything else to solve this problem?

Support Team: Okay, in that case you need to run a database update query in your database. But if you are not familiar with database, this will be much complex task for you. The steps will be like below:

  1. Login & Access your database management panel (phpMyAdmin or similar).
  2. Then run the following sql query in your Joomla database:
    ALTER TABLE `#_rsmonials` ADD `ip` VARCHAR( 100 ) NOT NULL AFTER `comment`

Please Note: Please do not forget to replace the ‘#_’ with the actual prefix of your Joomla database tables.

But if you are not sure how to do this, then we can help you in this regards. Then you need to provide us the phpMyAdmin (or similar) login details and we will do the needful for you.

Eugenio Carmo: I have managed to run a “repair the database” (problem not solved) and I’m not familiar to run a sql query.

I’d really appreciate if you can help me to do this.
