Apple Unveils the iPhone 17e: A Budget Marvel
March 2 (UPI) — On Monday, Apple inaugurated the iPhone 17e, a compelling entry into its iPhone line-up featuring enhanced photographic capabilities, an improved scratch-resistant screen, and the introduction of MagSafe technology for effortless attachment of chargers and accessories.
The iPhone 17e will be available for pre-order starting Wednesday, presenting consumers with a choice of three distinct colors—black, white, and pink.
Official retail availability is slated for March 11, with the base model, offering 256GB of storage, priced at $599, according to a statement from Apple.
In a statement, Kaianne Drance, Apple’s vice president of worldwide iPhone product marketing, articulated, “The iPhone 17e melds formidable performance with beloved features at an exceptional value, making it an enticing option for customers eager to transition to the iPhone 17 family.”
“Equipped with the A19 chip for unparalleled performance, doubled entry-level storage, a more intelligent camera system, and enhanced durability, the iPhone 17e is engineered to remain speedy, secure, and relevant for years,” Drance emphasized.
The unveiling of the 17e follows the introduction of its predecessor, the iPhone 16e, which debuted over a year ago as a lower-priced alternative to the iPhone 16, effectively replacing the now-defunct SE budget model after three generations concluded in 2022.
Significant enhancements separate the 17e from last year’s model, including a 48MP fusion camera that affords optical-quality 2x telephoto capabilities and supports 4K Dolby Vision video recording, as mentioned by Apple.
Additionally, the new Super Retina XDR display boasts threefold scratch resistance, diminished glare, and satellite communication functionalities for off-network connectivity.
The implementation of MagSafe further allows seamless attachment of various accessories, such as chargers, stands, and cases, to the rear of the device.
Moreover, the 17e integrates Apple Intelligence, anticipated to include an upgraded iteration of the Siri assistant, with support from Google’s Gemini AI.

Apple, along with numerous telecommunications carriers, is offering trade-in promotions for customers seeking to upgrade, with eligible older models for trade-in credit, including the iPhone 11 and iPhone 13.
