Tesla Debuts Innovative Charging Passport Feature for Owners
Tesla has unveiled a groundbreaking feature named Charging Passport, designed to offer owners a tailored overview of their usage of the Supercharger network throughout the year 2025.
Accessible via the Tesla app, this feature aggregates key statistics, including the longest journey, preferred charging stations, total kilometers added, and projected fuel savings.
It also provides a map detailing every Supercharger frequented over the year, complete with badges signifying the achievement of various milestones, such as stops at select “Iconic Charger” sites, which are notable for their historical or touristic significance.
This initiative essentially gamifies the Supercharging experience, a clever approach to encourage increased patronage of Tesla’s charging stations.
Furthermore, Charging Passport is linked to a competition wherein nine Tesla owners stand to win complimentary Supercharging for the lifetime of their vehicle. To be eligible, owners must access Charging Passport prior to January 1, 2026.
- Tesla will assess winners based on three criteria:
- The highest total energy charged in 2025
- The greatest number of unique Supercharger sites visited
- The longest recorded distance between Supercharger stops within the year
- Three winners will be selected in each category.
Tesla specifies that owners who already benefit from free Supercharging will not qualify for this contest.
The Longest Trip feature within the app provides an estimate derived from Supercharger usage patterns. Tesla clarifies that it does not monitor vehicle routing or geolocation data for this calculation; rather, it relies on consecutive charging sessions occurring within a 72-hour window that seem to suggest the same trajectory.
This section will only display if the owner undertook at least one journey exceeding 160 kilometers in 2025.
The Favourite Superchargers feature showcases up to three stations that were visited a minimum of three times throughout the year. The Kilometres Added metric reflects total energy charged in 2025 in conjunction with the efficiency of each vehicle variant.
Gas Savings is a comparison of charging costs against what fuel would have cost in a comparable combustion vehicle, and can yield a “Sustainable Saver” badge for substantial savings.
Iconic Charger badges are automatically awarded to owners who charge at Tesla’s designated landmark sites. Such locations include the new Tesla Diner, Oasis, as well as renowned destinations like Santa Monica, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon.
Internationally, Supercharger sites span Hilden, Montélimar, Harderwijk, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and numerous other sites across various provinces in China.
To utilize the Charging Passport, owners must ensure their Tesla app is updated to version 4.51.5 or newer, have a vehicle with software version 2021.44.25 or later, and make at least three unique Supercharger visits in 2025.
It is also necessary for the “Share Charging Data with Tesla App” setting to remain enabled. Additionally, some older models may require the activation of “road segment analytics” in the Data Sharing menu to facilitate feature functionality.
Winners will be contacted via email, and free Supercharging benefits will be applied to the designated vehicle by March 1, 2026. Tesla emphasizes that this reward is linked to the owner’s account and is non-transferable.
Vehicles utilized for commercial purposes, such as rideshare or delivery, are ineligible, and Tesla retains the right to revoke benefits in instances of excessive usage.
