2025 Central Dakota Ag Day: A Focus on Cybersecurity and Agricultural Innovation

The upcoming 2025 Central Dakota Ag Day promises to convene an impressive array of speakers, prominently featuring a keynote speaker who will elucidate strategies for safeguarding farmers and ranchers against the escalating menace of cyberattacks.

Hosted annually by North Dakota State University Extension, this significant event is scheduled for Friday, December 19, at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center (CREC) located in Carrington, North Dakota.

Chris Sherman, the principal owner and director of operations at Tech Support Farm, is set to inaugurate the day’s proceedings with his keynote address entitled “Cyber: U.S. Ag’s Next Big Storm.”

Following the keynote, Sherman will lead a breakout session titled “Riding Out the Storm: How to Improve Your Cybersecurity Posture Today.”

According to Jeff Gale, Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent in Foster County, We’re delighted to have Chris tackle the crucial subject of farm cybersecurity at Central Dakota Ag Day.

While new agricultural technologies present myriad advantages, they concomitantly heighten the risks of cybercrime. It is imperative for farmers and ranchers to arm themselves with the knowledge to defend against these threats.

In addition to the keynote address, the day-long program encompasses concurrent sessions dedicated to three primary domains: agronomy, livestock, and agricultural life. The topics slated for discussion include:

  • Sulfur and Potassium: Are We Giving Them Adequate Attention?
  • Considerations for Soybean Diseases
  • Robotic Weeding: Concepts and Options
  • Optimizing Fungicide Deployment for White Mold Management in Dry Beans and Soybeans
  • Wheat Weed Management and Maximizing Glufosinate Efficacy
  • Fundamentals of Food Preservation
  • Mental Health Resources: Be the Help
  • Challenges and Benefits of Multigenerational Farming
  • Upcoming Research Initiatives in the CREC Orchard
  • Decoding Feed Tags: What They Reveal
  • Comparing Feed Tags: Insights and Omissions
  • When Will the Beef Cowherd Commence Rebuilding?
  • Is Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Present in Our Cow Herd?
  • Best Practices for Utilizing Manure in Crop and Pasture Management

Frayne Olson, NDSU Extension crops economist, will conclude the day’s activities with a comprehensive session titled “Discipline and Patience: 2026 Crop Market Outlook.”
