MLS Championship Match to Showcase iPhone 17 Pro
The Major League Soccer (MLS) championship match on Saturday is set to exhibit the advanced camera capabilities of the iPhone 17 Pro.
In a groundbreaking move, the league will utilise four of these Apple devices during its MLS Cup broadcast, delivering live footage of the thrilling contest between Inter Miami and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
According to MLS Executive Vice President of Media, Seth Bacon, this collaboration with Apple has been meticulously tested over several months.
“The opportunity to integrate this technology while preserving the integrity and quality of the imagery is a remarkable testament to our partnership with Apple,” Bacon articulated.
“Collaborating with the world’s preeminent technology firm allows us to innovate and explore unprecedented avenues.”
The deployment of four iPhones signifies the league’s most extensive camera array for a championship event, boasting over 30 cameras that will provide fans with an exceptional variety of perspectives.
This includes sophisticated goal robotic cameras, a referee camera, specialised isocams for coaches and players, and aerial views captured by drones.
The incorporation of Apple devices during the MLS Cup exemplifies the evolution of the tech conglomerate’s ongoing marketing initiative, “Shot on iPhone.”
This campaign aims to highlight the iPhone’s prowess in capturing and producing stellar content. During the telecast, viewers will notice a subtle on-screen graphic each time footage shot on an iPhone is presented.
Notably, one of the iPhones will function as a high-end zone camera, capturing dynamic angles. “Whenever you see a shot from behind the goal, providing a thorough view of the field, that footage will be completely shot on an iPhone,” Bacon confirmed.
Additionally, another iPhone will relay live scenes from the supporters’ section at Chase Stadium. The remaining two devices will be helmed by roaming camera operators—one dedicated to capturing the exuberance of fans, while the other will zoom in on the reactions of coaches.
The MLS match will stream live at no cost on Apple TV, with traditional broadcast partners also featuring the league’s production.

This ensures that the “Shot on iPhone” integration reaches a broad audience, including viewers on Fox in the United States and TSN and RDS in Canada.
Furthermore, the match will be displayed live on Silvercast Media’s high-definition Mega-Zilla screen in New York’s Times Square, an impressive structure measuring 330 feet in width and 78 feet in height.
