Police officials are cautious about a resurgence in phone thefts following the recent launch of the latest iPhone model.

Personnel from the British Transport Police (BTP) have apprehended over a dozen suspects within a single week as part of proactive measures against this pattern of crime.
Superintendent John Loveless, who spearheads the national initiative targeting mobile snatchings, expressed, “As we transition into autumn and winter, we historically witness an escalation in phone theft incidents.”

In London last week, authorities detained 13 individuals wanted in connection with recent thefts on the rail network.
Among the apprehended was an 18-year-old male residing in Brixton, South London, charged with possession of a mobile device stolen last year from a victim at West Norwood Station.
Sergeant Douglas, a leader from the BTP’s Operational Support Unit, articulated while en route to a suspect’s location, “Our focus is on detaining high-risk offenders known to us.”
“This youth is set to be questioned for handling stolen property—we will rouse him from his rest and take him in.”

The British Transport Police reported that year-to-date thefts on London’s Tube network have decreased by nearly 19% compared to 2024.
