DJI Unveils Osmo 360: A Revolutionary Panoramic Sports Camera
DJI has recently unveiled the Osmo 360, a groundbreaking panoramic sports camera, which is now equipped with native capabilities to record in 8K at 50fps with a 10-bit Log format. This device also promises substantial enhancements in low-light photography, alongside user-friendly features. Notably, this camera was introduced in the Taiwanese market, showcasing DJI’s commitment to innovation.
Central to the Osmo 360’s functionality is its newly developed 1/1.1-inch square sensor, which provides roughly 25% greater effective imaging area than traditional rectangular CMOS sensors. The camera’s ability to record up to 8K 50fps in the 10-bit D-LogM format signifies a remarkable improvement in dynamic range and light adaptability. Particularly impressive is its performance in low-light environments, where the Osmo 360 minimizes noise, preserves shadow details, and ensures stable footage under challenging conditions.
Weighing merely 183g and standing at a height of just 83mm, the Osmo 360 is lighter and shorter than the Insta360 X5. This design facilitates seamless mounting on helmets or bicycles, thereby lessening vibration during use. Additionally, the camera boasts 105GB of built-in storage that can be further expanded using a micro SD card, enhancing its versatility.
The Osmo 360 operates on batteries that are compatible with the Osmo Action 4 Pro and 5 Pro. A single battery enables approximately 120 minutes of recording at 8K 30fps. When paired with an external battery stick, recording time can extend up to 180 minutes, catering to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts.
In the realm of video performance, the Osmo 360 introduces a “Boost Video” mode that allows for 4K recording at 120fps using a single lens, emulating the dynamic shooting experience characteristic of GoPro. With HorizonSteady leveling and RockSteady anti-shake technologies, the camera delivers smooth and natural footage, though some stabilization challenges persist in low-light scenarios.
On the audio front, the device supports dual-channel recording with DJI Mic 2 and Mic Mini, and boasts Bluetooth connectivity for headphones, including Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2, although it is limited to mono output.
For video editing capabilities, DJI’s new DJI Studio facilitates exports in both 360-degree and 3D formats and allows imports into popular editing software such as Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. However, the current features are lagging behind those offered by Insta360 Studio, prompting contemplation regarding enhancements in future updates for more advanced users.
