BU Recognized Among Top Institutions for Career Preparation
In a groundbreaking assessment of American higher education, LinkedIn has designated Boston University (BU) as the 43rd best institution in its inaugural ranking of colleges that effectively prepare students for fruitful professional trajectories.
LinkedIn’s Top Colleges in the US enumeration scrutinized nearly 1,000 regionally accredited four-year undergraduate programs, aiming to pinpoint those that optimize alumni for enduring career success. Noteworthy industries attracting BU graduates include technology and internet enterprises, advertising conglomerates, and academia.
According to Joseph Bizup, associate dean for undergraduate academic programs and policies at BU’s College of Arts & Sciences, one significant factor contributing to the university’s commendable rating is the Hub. This university-wide general education curriculum seeks to cultivate vital learning competencies across all students.
Bizup asserts that the Hub “explicitly addresses precisely the kinds of capacities that become increasingly important” throughout careers, covering areas such as effective communication, ethical reasoning, collaboration, and innovation.
Furthermore, Bizup highlights the role of the Experiential Learning Connector (ELC), directed by Erin Salius (GRS ’15). Initiated three years ago, this program connects students to a plethora of hands-on learning opportunities, facilitating course credit for internships and enhancing experiential learning.
The evaluation employed anonymized data from LinkedIn member profiles to assess the efficacy of universities’ graduating classes from 2019 to 2024, based on five crucial criteria.
The percentage of alumni securing full-time employment or enrolling in graduate studies within one year. The proportion who completed internships and, employer demand for each school’s graduates. Entrepreneurial or C-suite experience among alumni, the strength of alumni networking, and distinctive academic fields and skills attained by recent graduates.
“As an institution,” Bizup remarks, “we’re committed to offering students a robust liberal education while also positioning them for meaningful and fulfilling careers—not just their initial jobs.”

For the Class of 2024, 62 percent of graduates had obtained full-time jobs by last December, while 28 percent continued their education in graduate or professional schools.
Stefan Koppi, executive director of BU’s Center for Career Development (CCD), asserts that LinkedIn’s recognition underscores the interconnected landscape experienced by students, facilitated through programs like the ELC, Innovate@BU, and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.
He emphasizes the importance of peer education at BU, particularly through the CCD Career Ambassador Program, which provides invaluable peer-to-peer support to navigate the transition from academia to industry.
LinkedIn’s Top Colleges forms part of the LinkedIn Lists series curated by LinkedIn News, the platform’s business news outlet. To qualify for consideration, institutions needed a minimum of 2,000 alumni, with at least 500 having graduated between 2019 and 2024. The evaluation deliberately excluded military academies, for-profit institutions, and online-only or specialized schools.
