- The iPhone 20 Pro could integrate the Action Button’s functionalities into the Camera Control feature.
- The launch of the device is anticipated in September 2027.
Apple is reportedly contemplating a substantial overhaul of its flagship iPhone 20 Pro hardware. Recent industry conjectures indicate that the renowned tech giant might discard the standalone Action Button, a feature introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro.
This transformative design shift aims to streamline the device’s exterior, aligning it with an innovative quad-curved display that is slated for the 2027 Pro series.
In lieu of removing essential functionalities, Apple is poised to incorporate customizable shortcuts directly into the Camera Control feature.
This modification seeks to minimize extraneous frame cuts while ensuring the device remains user-friendly with a dual-action gesture: a standard tap for camera operations and a prolonged press for expedited user commands.
iPhone 20 Pro Could Eliminate a Physical Button
A recent leak on Weibo in November 2026 suggests that Apple is planning to forsake the dedicated Action Button from the forthcoming iPhone 20 Pro.
This anticipated modification will render the device’s external design more streamlined, drawing parallels with the iPhone Duo, known for its minimalistic, software-oriented button architecture.
While Apple has yet to confirm this modification, the transition of the long-press feature to the Camera Control button alleviates concerns regarding singular-function buttons, thereby preserving the device’s structural simplicity.

Reports indicate that Apple is eliminating the Action Button that debuted with the iPhone 15 Pro series, which was intended to replace the traditional mute switch.
The tech firm aspires to integrate its customizable long-press actions within the Camera Control button, ensuring that functionality is not lost entirely.
Current Button Configuration of Apple’s iPhones
The latest iterations of iPhone Pro models feature a multi-button configuration, incorporating a conventional Power/Side button on the right, Volume controls, and the Action button on the left, alongside a special touch-capacitive Camera Control button positioned on the device’s lower frame.
Implications of the Proposed Button Removal
The withdrawal of the Action Button does not equate to the loss of shortcuts. Apple is likely to enhance the Camera Control button with a long-press capability, enabling users to initiate custom actions, switch mute profiles, or execute shortcuts through straightforward interactions with a singular consolidated key.
Expected Design Alterations for the iPhone 20 Pro
The forthcoming iPhone 20 Pro is projected to sport a quad-curved display with minimal bezel presence surrounding the operational display area.
The design will likely feature fewer mechanical cutouts due to button amalgamation and a diminished cutout facilitated by under-display component positioning.
Anticipated Specifications for the iPhone 20 Pro
The forthcoming iPhone 20 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion technology, boasting a sleek, thin-border aesthetic.
Additionally, it may incorporate a triple-lens rear camera ensemble comprising a 50MP primary sensor, a 48MP Ultra-Wide, and a 48MP Periscope Telephoto lens.
The device is also set to include an integrated capacitive Camera Control button with multi-function shortcuts, powered by a next-gen A20 Pro processor employing an innovative 2nm fabrication process.
Furthermore, the iPhone 20 Pro is expected to feature enhanced battery density along with expedited wired USB-C and MagSafe wireless charging capabilities.
Projected Launch Timeline for the iPhone 20 Pro
Apple is anticipated to adhere to its established release cadence, unveiling the iPhone 20 Pro series in September 2027. Nevertheless, the specific launch schedule remains unconfirmed by the company.
