Prominent pre-order enthusiasm has reportedly compelled Apple to significantly ramp up its orders for the iPhone Duo from suppliers, as reported by DigiTimes.
Sources within the supply chain disclosed that Foxconn and various component producers have received directives indicating an approximate 44% uptick in orders, escalating from 9.7 million to 14 million units.
This recalibrated target is attributed to robust pre-orders for Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone and spans a complete 12-month period, rather than being confined to the remainder of 2026.
Last week, Apple characterized the demand as “nothing short of extraordinary.” Within a mere 30 minutes of the pre-orders commencing on October 16, shipping estimates in the United States had surged to January 25 for every configuration available.
However, fulfilling this augmented shipment target may pose significant challenges. DigiTimes indicated that production output hinges on the progress of assembly operations, following earlier reports of manufacturing hurdles impacting assembly processes, displays, and hinges.
DigiTimes anticipates a substantial growth trajectory for global foldable smartphone shipments, projecting a 25.7% increase in 2026 and a remarkable 59.1% in 2027, compared to a modest 7.4% growth in 2025, with Apple’s foray into the market likely catalyzing this expansion.
The iPhone Duo is set to debut on October 23, with a starting price of $1,999 in the United States.
