Amazon Announces Leadership Shift in Alexa Division

Amazon is orchestrating a significant organizational change within its Alexa division, with Aidan Marcuss set to ascend to leadership next month.

This transition comes as long-serving executive Daniel Rausch is poised to assume a different role within the company’s expansive devices and services segment, according to a report by Reuters.

Rausch, who has devoted 17 years to Amazon and spearheaded the Alexa and Echo initiatives as vice president for over three years, will formally depart the division in November.

This change was confirmed by Amazon in response to inquiries from Reuters. Rausch is anticipated to transition into an alternate position within the devices and services division by 2027.

Marcuss, who transitioned to Amazon from Microsoft in early 2025, currently oversees the Fire TV platform, advertising strategies, and the Amazon Appstore.

His recent endeavors include the launch of a new Fire TV Stick last month, which has garnered mixed reviews from consumers and critics alike.

Kevin Keith, an Amazon vice president in charge of product and marketing, will maintain his current role while temporarily absorbing Marcuss’s existing responsibilities, as stated by the company. No additional details about the leadership alterations have been disclosed by Amazon.

Integration of Alexa+ in Amazon’s Tablet Strategy

This leadership transition coincides with Amazon’s unveiling of its inaugural tablet computers featuring the Alexa assistant.

The announcement, made on Thursday, highlights a strategic positioning of these devices at a higher price tier compared to the previously released budget-friendly Fire tablets.

Amazon has been actively enhancing Alexa with generative artificial intelligence capabilities, enabling it to manage longer and more intricate user inquiries.

The revamped service, dubbed Alexa+, is accessible as part of an Amazon Prime membership priced at $139 annually or as an independent subscription at $20 per month.

Since its inception in 2014, Alexa has consistently contributed to losses at Amazon. The latest tablet launch signifies an intention to place the upgraded assistant prominently at the forefront of a new device lineup.

Amazon’s new tablet assortment features three distinct models: the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8, with pricing starting at $229.99.

Each model operates on the Android platform, boasts aluminum casings, and provides access to the Google Play Store, in addition to Amazon’s extensive entertainment and reading services.

The 12 Pro stands as the flagship tablet, equipped with a 12-inch display, a remarkable 120Hz refresh rate, up to 16GB of RAM, and an optional anti-glare Nanomatte screen.

The 11-inch variant is tailored toward streaming, gaming, and browsing, while the compact 8.7-inch model prioritizes portability.

Alexa+ is seamlessly integrated across the tablet lineup, empowering users to seek assistance without interrupting their viewing experience.

Its on-screen intelligence can interpret displayed information and furnish contextual responses, while live engagement sessions facilitate uninterrupted dialogues without necessitating the repetition of the wake word before each inquiry.
