Apple Poised to Debut Its First Foldable iPhone at Upcoming Launch Event
Apple is primed to make a significant foray into the foldable smartphone arena, as its inaugural foldable iPhone is poised to take the spotlight at the company’s anticipated September 9 event.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the soon-to-be-unveiled device may be branded as the iPhone Duo.
This book-style smartphone is projected to boast an expansive internal display, with a starting price estimated around $2,000, positioning it among the priciest iPhones in mainstream retail history.
Gurman’s recent insights, shared ahead of Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” presentation, indicate that the iPhone Duo might initially offer 256GB of storage, while a high-end variant could approach $3,000, featuring a staggering 2TB of internal memory.
The premium pricing is partly attributed to escalating component expenses, notably in memory technology. Reports suggest that Apple intends to absorb some of these rising costs rather than entirely shifting them onto consumers.
The anticipated iPhone Duo is likely to feature a book-style folding mechanism, including an external display measuring approximately 5.5 inches and a more expansive 7.8-inch internal screen.
Additionally, the device may support Apple Pencil, potentially introducing stylus functionality to the iPhone lineage for the very first time.
However, it remains uncertain whether existing Apple Pencil iterations will be compatible with this foldable model, or if a new variant will be introduced.
Other expected specifications entail Apple’s cutting-edge A20 Pro chip, an exceptionally slender design profile, and the presence of Touch ID in lieu of Face ID.
Regarding color options, Apple seems to be adopting a minimalist approach. The iPhone Duo could be available in dark blue and white, with no black variant at its initial launch.
While the foldable device is slated for announcement on September 9, Gurman’s reports indicate that it may not be available for immediate purchase, as manufacturing complexities surrounding the intricate foldable configuration could delay the retail launch until October.
The iPhone Duo is not anticipated to be the sole significant announcement during the event; Apple is also expected to reveal the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, along with updates to its AirPods and Apple Watch line-ups.
While Apple has yet to confirm any of these speculations, the event on September 9 is scheduled to commence at 10:30 PM IST, when further details are anticipated to be disclosed.
