Beyond Borders Foundation Equips Over 300 Children With Essential Skills in Ogun State
The Beyond Borders Foundation has successfully imparted technical expertise to more than 300 children in Ogun State, focusing on crucial modern skills such as coding, graphic design, and vocational training.
This initiative aims to diminish the opportunity disparity prevalent among children in economically disadvantaged communities.
During a recent three-day bootcamp held in Isheri-Olofin, Ogun State, Tobi Durosinmi-Etti, a board member of the foundation, revealed the program’s objectives.
The bootcamp provided practical training encompassing skills such as coding, graphic design, content creation, culinary arts, baking, and hairstyling.
Durosinmi-Etti articulated the foundation’s vision, stating, When one envisions a children’s bootcamp, it’s typically situated within affluent socio-economic brackets—perhaps in Lekki, Abuja, or Ikoyi.
Our mission at Beyond Borders is to extend an identical caliber of excellence to communities that lack such prospects.
This event marked the foundation’s inaugural bootcamp, although they have executed numerous interventions for youth across various locales in the past.
Durosinmi-Etti highlighted the rationale behind the extended, structured format of this bootcamp, which aims for a more substantial impact on participants.
“While we have organized numerous events, including children’s parties and clubs, this occasion represents a concerted effort to deliver a more significant, impactful experience,” he affirmed.
The foundation’s focus extends beyond mere skills acquisition; it is committed to the holistic development and welfare of children.
“Our initiative encompasses not just educational empowerment but also holistic welfare,” he elaborated. “We are dedicated to the overarching well-being of every African child, particularly in Nigeria.”
Plans are underway to replicate this successful program in additional communities, with Lagos earmarked as a starting point for broader expansion.
“This is merely the genesis. We intend to demonstrate feasibility here and subsequently broaden our reach across Lagos and beyond,” Durosinmi-Etti remarked.
Amaka Igwe, a representative from ProvidusUnity Bank Plc, underscored the significance of instilling financial literacy in children at an early age during her address at the bootcamp.
She emphasized that the participants were educated on essential money management strategies, the importance of saving, and responsible financial practices.
“Our presence here aims to furnish these children with financial knowledge, a critical foundation for their future,” she stated.
In addition, Eniola Makinde, a noted entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of The Yellow Lorry, urged participants to view entrepreneurship as a catalyst for problem-solving and national development.
“Entrepreneurship transcends the mere act of starting a business; it involves recognizing issues within one’s community and formulating viable solutions,” she noted, encouraging the cultivation of practical skills and mentorship opportunities.
Makinde concluded by advocating for increased engagement of youth with experienced practitioners who can impart real-world insights, thus fortifying their skill sets for future endeavors.
