Tim Cook to Depart as Apple CEO Following 15-Year Tenure
In a momentous transition for the tech titan, Apple is set to bid adieu to Tim Cook, who has diligently served as CEO for over 15 years.
The company commemorated this significant milestone with a farewell gathering at Apple Park, which drew an estimated 200 employees who came together to celebrate his impactful leadership.
The popular band OneRepublic graced the occasion with a special performance, during which Cook expressed heartfelt gratitude to his team and shared an intimate personal anecdote.
The farewell celebration occurred on August 23, just a day prior to Cook’s 15th anniversary as CEO, as reported by ‘The Information’.
Taking place at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, the event featured tributes from notable figures associated with Apple.
A portion of the festivities unfolded at Caffè Macs, the company’s cafeteria located within its iconic ring-shaped headquarters, while OneRepublic’s performance illuminated the open-air courtyard at the building’s core.
Attendees included a host of prominent personalities who seized the opportunity to commend Cook. Esteemed speakers encompassed Laurene Powell Jobs, spouse of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs; Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer; Eddy Cue, head of Apple services; and hardware engineering lead, John Ternus. Cook also took the stage to address the gathering.

During his address, Cook shared a poignant moment, mentioning his partner, Mike, by name—an unusual display of openness for the typically private CEO.
This rare glimpse into his personal life stood in stark contrast to his usual reticence, with the only previous occasion being his public acknowledgment of his sexual orientation in 2014.
Tim Cook’s Future at Apple
Despite his stepping down as CEO, it is paramount to note that Cook is not entirely departing from Apple. On September 1, he will transition to the role of Executive Chairman.
Apple has clarified that Cook will continue to engage with various facets of the business and will interact with lawmakers worldwide. Additionally, he is expected to maintain a visible public profile in this new capacity.
On the same day, John Ternus will formally step into the position of Chief Executive Officer. Having been part of Apple since 2001 and serving as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering since 2021, Ternus’s ascension is not predicted to catalyze significant organizational upheaval.
Rather, the transition is intended to promote continuity, with no substantial shifts anticipated in Apple’s current direction. Cook’s executive assistant will continue to support Ternus in his new role.

Shortly after taking the reins, Ternus will face a formidable test. The upcoming September iPhone event stands poised to be his inaugural product launch as CEO—a pivotal moment that will place him squarely in the limelight during a critical time of media scrutiny.
