Launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8: Pricing and Specifications in India
In a bold market maneuver, Samsung has announced an impending price hike for its flagship foldable smartphones in India, encompassing the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8.
This decision arises in the wake of escalating costs for memory chips, which are exerting financial pressure on smartphone manufacturers, according to insights from retailers and industry analysts.
The newly unveiled foldable lineup is priced between ₹1.25 lakh and ₹2.6 lakh and has garnered an extraordinary response from consumers in India.
Samsung India reported an astounding 2.71 lakh pre-orders within merely 72 hours of the devices’ release, setting a new precedent for its foldable smartphone category.
As retailers grapple with the burgeoning demand for memory chips—a critical element in smartphone manufacturing—they anticipate further cost inflation for these devices.
Analysts suggest that Samsung may eventually transfer some of these heightened component expenses to consumers. Thus far, the company has absorbed a considerable share of the rising costs.
The latest foldables epitomize Samsung’s most technologically sophisticated collection yet, featuring enhancements in hinge engineering, display quality, durability, and overall performance, alongside exclusive AI functionalities tailored for the Galaxy ecosystem.
Remarkably, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra boasts a mere thickness of 4.1mm when unfolded, rendering it the slimmest iteration in the Galaxy Z Fold series.
In a parallel vein, the Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs a mere 201 grams, establishing it as Samsung’s lightest Fold variant to date.
JB Park, Samsung’s President and CEO for Southwest Asia, articulated the company’s commitment to shouldering a significant volume of rising costs to mitigate the full brunt of price increases on consumers.
He noted, “When compared to competitors, Samsung’s price adjustments have been relatively modest, as we continue to absorb costs.”
During the London launch event for the new Galaxy foldables, Park emphasized the magnitude of the financial burden being shouldered by Samsung in 2026, which he described as “humongous.”
He affirmed that this strategic choice is motivated by the firm’s dedication to delivering high-quality devices rather than merely safeguarding or augmenting market share.
Additionally, Samsung is rolling out extended zero-cost EMI options for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 in India, potentially alleviating the initial price pressures on consumers.
Looking ahead, industry experts predict that the ongoing memory deficit may stymie smartphone shipments during the latter half of 2026.
Abhilash Kumar, Lead Research Advisor at Smart Analytics Global, mentioned, “The smartphone sector in India is likely to witness year-on-year shipment declines in the third and fourth quarters, attributable to the global memory scarcity leading to inflated prices.”
