Quantum Technology: The Next Paradigm Shift

IBM is steadfastly advancing its quantum technology strategy, aiming to engage customers in the Asia Pacific region in this quantum journey, all while enterprises in the area continue to juggle priorities surrounding AI and digital transformation.
“Where AI reshapes our current operations, quantum technology will redefine our future realities,” remarked Ana Paula Assis during the IBM Think event in Singapore.
Quantum and AI are not adversarial technologies; rather, they are complementary. While AI draws insights from existing data, quantum computing enables the discovery of entirely new realms of knowledge.

Unveiling strategies ranging from agentic AI to sovereign cloud initiatives at its Singapore event, IBM’s emphasis on promoting quantum technology adoption among APAC clients was particularly noteworthy.
“Quantum is indeed the third transformative technology wave, and its arrival is on the horizon,” asserted Hans Dekkers, General Manager at IBM APAC, during a recent press briefing. “For optimists, it may be just two years ahead. Pessimists might expect a four-year wait.”
Dekkers advised enterprise leaders to make prudent decisions regarding data management to facilitate quantum-safe environments, even as they navigate the complexities of competing investment demands.
“CIOs should consistently evaluate their data storage decisions through the lens of encryption,” Dekkers suggested.
He elaborated that IBM’s data storage solutions are equipped to incorporate quantum-safe cryptography, ensuring that data retained today is safeguarded by algorithms prepared for future threats.
“This approach provides a means to fortify current data using quantum-safe cryptography, encouraging all stakeholders to adopt encryption measures now, despite the absence of quantum machines,” he noted.
In a Singaporean context, Dekkers underscored the government’s awareness of potential quantum computing-related security threats, evidenced by initiatives undertaken by the Infocomm Media Development Authority.
During the same media session, Jesse Chao, head of AI and quantum computing at Foxconn, articulated his perspective on the imminent convergence of AI and quantum technologies.
“Just three and a half years post-AI inception, the impact has been extraordinarily transformative across various sectors,” Chao observed. “Massive demand coexists with extensive media coverage.”
Perceptions of quantum lead many to anticipate its arrival, propelling the acceleration of quantum computing.
Additionally, quantum technology holds potential for addressing challenges related to power consumption. Our findings suggest it may provide solutions for problems classical computing cannot tackle.
