CSIA Welcomes Betsy Linnell as New Director of Marketing & Communications
The Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) has announced the appointment of Betsy Linnell to the position of Director of Marketing & Communications, effective immediately.
This strategic move underscores the CSIA’s dedication to enhancing its national brand visibility, fostering member engagement, and promoting the organization’s overarching goal of expanding the sport of skiing and the professional growth of ski instructors throughout Canada.
Linnell possesses an impressive array of qualifications for this role: over three decades of expertise in marketing and brand leadership, an intimate understanding of the CSIA’s programs and member base, and an active involvement in skiing as a Level 4 Ski Instructor and Course Conductor.
Her distinctive skill set equips her to adeptly direct a national marketing initiative for the organization both in the office and on the slopes.
Before her tenure at CSIA, Linnell dedicated more than ten years to senior marketing roles at Whistler Blackcomb, one of North America’s premier ski resorts.
During her time as Marketing Manager and subsequently as Manager of Brand & Destination Marketing, she shaped brand strategy and destination marketing, leading internal teams of up to ten professionals alongside external agencies.
Some of her notable accomplishments include crafting Whistler Blackcomb’s inaugural comprehensive brand architecture and creative strategy, as well as cultivating the resort’s messaging in connection with the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
In 2007, Linnell founded B-Line Marketing Management, a consultancy that offered senior-level brand strategy and marketing management to small and medium-sized enterprises throughout British Columbia for a decade.
Linnell joined the CSIA in 2018 as the Regional Administrative Coordinator for British Columbia, where she quickly became an indispensable asset to program quality and the Course Conductor community.
By February 2024, she had ascended to the role of Program Manager, taking on national responsibilities for the quality, consistency, and standards of CSIA training and certification programs all across Canada.
Subsequently, she also joined the coaching team for the CSIA Interski Team, set to represent Canada at Interski 2027 in Vail, Colorado.
A proponent of the Congress theme “All In,” Linnell is dedicated to disseminating the insights, inspiration, and excellence embodied by Interski among the CSIA membership—a commitment she will sustain in her new capacity.
Throughout her journey with the CSIA, Linnell has remained actively engaged with her skiing duties as a Level 4 Ski Instructor and Instructor Trainer with the Whistler Blackcomb Snow School. This ongoing involvement keeps her closely connected to the membership and the fundamental mission of the CSIA.
Linnell remarked, “Marketing excels when it is anchored in a sincere comprehension of the audience it seeks to engage and intertwined with the true values of the organization.
My experiences on the slopes as an instructor and course conductor, paired with my direct interactions with our membership, programs, and partners, have culminated in a profound understanding of our identity and what the CSIA represents for its members.
It is a privilege to assume this role and leverage that insight to formulate a brand and communications strategy that authentically reflects the strength, proficiency, and passion that define this organization within the Canadian ski landscape.”
Beth Potter, interim Managing Director, emphasized, This appointment reflects both Betsy’s remarkable career and the CSIA’s recognition that marketing and communications are foundational to how we serve and expand our membership.
Betsy grasps the nuances of this organization comprehensively—as a program leader, course conductor, and marketer. This rare combination positions us well for the challenges that lie ahead.
As the Director of Marketing & Communications, Linnell will spearhead the creation and execution of CSIA’s national marketing, branding, and communications strategy.

Her responsibilities will encompass content development, campaign oversight, member communications, team management, and ensuring brand stewardship, along with the efficacy of all marketing and communications efforts.
