Manhattan Associates and Genuine Parts Company Launch Innovative Warehouse Management System
In a significant advancement, Manhattan Associates has successfully implemented a state-of-the-art warehouse management system at Genuine Parts Company’s (GPC) distribution centre in Brisbane. This marks a pivotal overhaul for one of the region’s foremost automotive and industrial parts distributors.
The newly adopted system supersedes an amalgamation of antiquated software and manual operations through the introduction of Manhattan Active Warehouse Management, a sophisticated cloud-based platform.
This initiative aims to consolidate warehouse operations into a streamlined and cohesive model, as part of GPC’s comprehensive strategy to simplify supply chain functionality across its extensive network.
Brisbane is a crucial hub for GPC, which orchestrates a supply chain spanning several locales, workflows, and systems throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The project’s objective centers on enhancing visibility within warehouse activities and standardizing processes that were previously managed via disparate systems.
Testing Phase
Prior to the official launch, extensive testing and training protocols were instituted to prime staff and operations for the transition.
This exhaustive preparation encompassed over 1,400 user acceptance test scenarios, operational rehearsals that included stores, inbound containers, and local deliveries, alongside more than 850 training sessions for over 300 personnel.
The platform introduces system-directed workflows tailored for inbound, inventory, and outbound activities, encompassing automated allocation, replenishment, and picking. GPC anticipates these enhancements will bolster inventory accuracy, elevate labor productivity, and facilitate expedited fulfillment to retail outlets.
Moreover, GPC stands to be among the inaugural organizations in Australia to leverage Honeywell Voice for Manhattan Active. This voice-directed workflow system aims to enhance accuracy and productivity while allowing personnel to maintain concentration and safety within the warehouse environment.
Jon Longbottom, Chief Supply Chain Officer at GPC, articulated that the impetus for this initiative was the necessity to navigate a convoluted operating landscape through a more uniform set of processes.
“The collaboration with Manhattan Associates has been indispensable in orchestrating a transformation of this magnitude.
From the beginning, we sought a partner who grasped the intricacies of our network and could facilitate the amalgamation of numerous operations into a singular, coherent methodology,” he stated.
Future Focus
Longbottom emphasized that the undertaking was also concentrated on cultivating processes that would remain robust over the long term.
“Manhattan has partnered closely with our team at every juncture, aiding us in designing enhanced processes that are not only more efficient but also scalable as our enterprise continues to expand,” he remarked.
He contended that the novel system provides the distributor with heightened capabilities for refining operations throughout its broader network in response to fluctuating market conditions and evolving customer expectations.
“With the new system in place, we are strategically positioned to amplify operational performance across our network while continuing to adapt our supply chain capabilities to meet the shifting demands of customers and the marketplace,” Longbottom added.

This implementation underscores a broader trend among distributors and logistics providers transitioning from outdated warehouse systems to integrated software platforms.
In extensive networks, uncoordinated systems can render inventory control, fulfillment, and labor planning increasingly complex.
Scale Challenges
Raghav Sibal, Vice President APAC at Manhattan Associates, noted that the scale of GPC’s operations had rendered disparate systems increasingly untenable.
“Organizations such as GPC operate within a framework of complexity whereby independent systems are no longer viable,” he explained.
Sibal observed that the Brisbane rollout exemplifies the operational advantages of aligning systems, workflows, and personnel around a unified model.
