Amazon is poised to implement significant workforce reductions as it prepares to shutter one of its warehouse facilities in South Florida. A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the Florida Department of Commerce on April 17 indicates that 616 employees will face layoffs.
Closure of TMB8 Facility
The WARN filing reveals that Amazon intends to terminate operations at its TMB8 facility, located at 27505 SW 132 Ave., Homestead, FL 33032. The layoffs will occur in a phased approach, commencing between July 2 and September 30 as part of the facility’s wind-down.
In an effort to mitigate the impact on affected employees, Amazon is providing internal transfer opportunities. The WARN notice states that employees will continue to receive their wages and associated benefits until their final working day.
While the WARN Act mandates a 60-day notification period, Amazon informed affected employees as early as March 4, 2026. Although the corporation has not disclosed the specific rationale behind the closure, it has listed the affected job titles in the filing.
A report in the Miami Herald from March elaborated on the closure of the Homestead facility, which was inaugurated in September 2024.
The report emphasized Amazon’s strategic redirection for the site, asserting that the statement mentioned that the current warehouse inventory hub will be converted into a fulfillment center, a specialized facility where employees directly package customer orders.
The nearest traditional Amazon inventory hub is situated in Port St. Lucie, roughly a two-hour drive, though smaller fulfillment centers are operational throughout Miami-Dade.
Amazon indicated that the temporary closure of the Homestead facility will be largely imperceptible to customers.
