Business Profile: An Insight into Donegal’s Entrepreneurial Landscape
Inaugurating a series of business profiles, Donegal Daily highlights some of the county’s most exhilarating entrepreneurial talents.
This inaugural profile presents Owen O’Donnell, a pioneering software developer and web designer hailing from West Donegal.
At the age of 28, O’Donnell, a resident of Burtonport, has recently unveiled his new website—a comprehensive showcase of the exceptional services he can offer to businesses across development and design.
His distinctive advantage lies in his dual expertise as a software developer coupled with an astute design sensibility. This unique combination empowers him to incorporate intricate features into websites or applications seamlessly.
Typically, web design and backend development necessitate collaboration between two separate entities, thereby escalating costs and complicating communication.
This scenario is far from optimal. O’Donnell’s multifaceted skill set allows him to extend an extensive array of services to prospective clients.
Throughout his career, O’Donnell has undertaken numerous compelling projects, but is now eager to embark on his independent freelance journey.
A proud graduate of LYIT, he earned a First Class Honours degree in Computer Science in 2014.
Currently, he has joined the Software Development team at the American multinational corporation Pramerica, following his tenure at the software company 8over8 in Derry.
O’Donnell characterises himself simply as a software developer with a fervour for web design, dedicated to crafting simple, elegant, and efficient websites that deliver substantial value to users.
In an interview with Donegal Daily, he expressed, “Pursuing freelance work has always been a dream of mine, and I am eager to embrace new projects and challenges awaiting me.”
He added, “I relish the opportunity to take the reins on a project, bearing the sole responsibility for creating an application, website, or blog for a client.”
“While my passion for software development has been long-standing, I’ve recently unearthed a burgeoning interest in front-end web design.”

“Every project I undertake is driven by the imperative to ensure it delivers tangible value to the end user. I aim for perfection, as this leaves a lasting impression. This philosophy extends to everything I do; my meticulous focus on detail will be apparent in the final product.”
