WordPress-Vs-Joomla-02The security of a site is a key factor to consider while choosing a CMS. The high risks in the current digital world which mainly attributed to hacking and cracking of the site are a concern to all. It is advisable to look for a harder to crack system to keep the malicious programmers away.

Higher security:

WordPress developers are highly active in providing updates to enhance security. There are almost monthly updates available for download. The use of security plugins is encouraged and they are downloadable directly to the site. The SQL attacks are also reduced by having code downloads on a regular basis.

Lower security:

The absence of regular code snippets and downloadable plugins makes Joomla scores less here. It has a general setting which is more prone to attacks. The security forums are general and therefore exposure of security details of the site.

The ease of use of while performing these tasks will determine how effective your CMS is. Easy to follow steps in the user interface will enable the manipulation of information in the site. In addition the site should be easy to teach and understand.

Easier to use:

WordPress interface is more user-friendly. It has an elaborate user setting which is internationally set. In addition, the coding method is more elaborate and more compatible backwards. The admin panel is distinct as the functions are not duplicated from the user interface.

Harder to use:

The admin roles seem to duplicate in other interfaces as well, as the plugins and extensions. User roles are more duplicated and thus require more selections on every page. The codes and plugins used are not backwards and forward compatible. This makes its usability less, especially with previous versions.

WINNER (Usability :: WordPress Vs Joomla) : WordPress

WordPress-Vs-Joomla-04The larger the number of developers, the better the CMS, this is because the higher population will offer more diverse ideas and more easy to follow procedures while making any code. The size and functionality of codes governing plugins will tend to be reduced in size with time. They will however offer better solutions to issues such as compatibility, integration with social sites and user friendly interface.

Less available:

Joomla plugins are estimated to be 10,000. They are available for download. However, most will come at a small fee.

“Products which take a bigger market share will mostly be more user friendly, cheaper or higher performers than the rest. ”

Apple fans would snort out their lattes at this anecdotal evidence. I know they would have argued for the past decade that Windows is not friendly, no cheaper in terms of ongoing costs and is slower.

I agree with “concerned user”. Your article screams of biased information based purely on opinion and not sound or sourced facts. You don’t even write in the depth or confidence as the expert that you are. Your argument structure lacks any positive critical analysis of Joomla which ends up giving the article less credibility overall.

WordPress and Joomla are BOTH excellent CMS and have great communities that are supportive and excited about their projects. Open Source should be encouraging each other, not using one system to dog the other.

Please consider either adjusting your article or removing it.

Here in this article we considered the 5 following points:

      1. Market Share: If you check the Joomla & WordPress official website, you can see how many peoples downloaded it. Also please check the alexa rank of each website.

      2. Security: Although Joomla is also very much secured, but the regular bug fixing update is much better in case of WordPress than Joomla. Also in case of WordPress there are some very good plugins that can secure your server a lot (like Better WordPress Security or Bulletproof Security).

      3. Usability: If you already used both, you can easily understand WordPress admin panel is much more user friendly than Joomla. So for a non-developer WordPress is always much more user friendly than Joomla.

      4. Development Community: I am not saying that Joomla has poor community, but WordPress has a bigger one.

      5. Plugins & Extensions: Here also WordPress is a clear winner. For any enhancement of your website you can easily find a good add-on in WordPress, but in Joomla it is hard. Joomla also have many very good extensions but each time you can not find a suitable one as per your needs. In case of WordPress you can find much more suitable plugins.

We are not telling at all that Joomla is bad. We also use Joomla in web development of large scale projects. But if any novice ask us what to use, then we always recommend WordPress to them, because they are less technical and WordPress is best for non-technical users.

  2. Concerned User Says:

Your analysis between WP and Joomla is flawed and it’s sad for a company that makes Joomla components/modules/plugins to get the facts wrong…

I understand needing to make content for your website so your ranks higher but at least make it accurate. It doesn’t help users of the WP or Joomla community in either cases.

    :(

    Concerned User.
