Hi all, today we released the new version of our RSMonials component. In the new version 1.5.3 we implemented much more possibilities. The new version features are:
- Previously many users emailed us that the captcha security is not too strong. So in this version we implemented one new well known Captcha Security Library “RECAPTCHA”. Now you can enable ReCaptcha Security in the testimonial form.
- In the admin panel now the multiple selection of testimonials are also possible.
- New attractive layout system is implement in this version. You can manage all Styles and CSS from the admin panel.
- New image upload features is also implemented. Now if you wish you can collect and display one picture of the “testimonial submitter”. You can manage the maximum allowed size of image uploading from the component settings section.
- Several other small changes are made throughout the script so this will improve the performance.

Love the component and module. Problem with module display in I.E. Text shifts to the right and only shows 25% of paragraph.

Can you recommend another pretty css testimonial plugin like yours fro 1.7
So how risky is it still to work on 1.7 if you needed a good list of plugins?
I have been seeing the most uncompetitive codes offer now the 1.7 update

Which version of Joomla you are using currently? This version will only work in Joomla 1.5.x.

I have upgraded to the RSMonials 1.5.3 with new captcha and the problem of the spamming bots was reduced to 0. Thank you for a great job.
Would you implement the RS Moniak plugin for sh404sef any time? The URL shows this …/index.php?option=com_rsmonials&Itemid=9 instead of …/feedback.html though I have written in sh404sef as new URL with alias to the old link.
Is this a problem of RS Monial or I have to address the issue with the sh404sef?

Yes, we are planning to migrate it for Joomla 1.6 also. It may take some time but we will surely release the version for Joomla 1.6.

Hi there,
Considering using RSmonials for an upcoming project but I still don’t see any signs of a Joomla 1.6 version anywhere on the site, it has now been a while since you mentioned that you would be upgrading it… where do we stand today in that area?
Is there an alpha version available for testing, a beta version? a RC, anything? the words ‘will surely release’ doesn’t give much confidence that RSWebSols will release anything before Joomla 1.7??

Hi Toty,
Please do the following:
1. Login to your Joomla admin panel.
2. Go to “Components” => “RSMonials” => “Settings”.
3. Then set the following settings here: a) show_captcha=true, b) use_recaptcha=true, c) recaptcha_public_key=YourAPIPublicKey, d) recaptcha_private_key=YourAPIPrivateKey, e) recaptcha_theme=YourChoice .
Then try to reload your website. You can get your ReCaptcha API Key from here: http://www.google.com/recaptcha

I am new to Joomla.
With some hesitation I downloaded the component, installed and…
voilla!!!
it just worked.
Such a good first experience.
It was also very easy to translate it to Hebrew (using the language file and a few DB changes to hebrew), and it worked in RTL mode right away.
Wonderful work. very easy to run and implement. elegant look and feel. what else could I ask for?

I am running the newest version of rsmonials and if I use the regular captcha I get a broken image and if I try to use recaptcha with the correct keys inputed i get this “Input error: k: Format of site key was invalid”

Please double check the API Keys. Also please check for blank spaces at the end or at the beginning of API keys. If there is any blank space please remove that space and try again.

Is there a way to upgrade an old version without uninstalling it? I get an error when I try to upload the new version, and I’m afraid I will lose all of my existing testimonials if I uninstall the original.

You can uninstall the old one first, and then install the new version. Do not worry, you do not lose any testimonials. Only you need to re-configure your “RSMONIALS” settings once again.

Hi,
I love the extension but get a problem when I enable the standard module on my frontpage. It seems to conflict with other extensions I have running, namely RedMystic and EasyImageCaption. They show errors:
Deprecated: Function split() is deprecated in
Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in
Disbale the RSmonials module and the errors disappear. Any ideas?

Sorry, I found setting for issue No. 3 above. this works.
Issue with “About” content was my fault, the module was incorrect size. This was also effecting Issue No. 1.
That just leaves item 2. This just relates to the main component settings where I do feel that setting should be in settings tab along with similar settings.

Hi great extension thank you.
Couple of issues:
1. Gap between testimonials (when scrolling)is not consistent.
2. Setting for “testimonial_block_show_date” should be in Settings not Display Style
3. Changing setting for “testimonial_block_show_date” to false has no effect.

The testimonials are currently sorted according to their date of posting (newest first). You can change the date of posting (from admin panel) to sort them according to your needs.

Ok, thank you for the reply. For now that will do however it is not ideal. 2 requests for future editions of this great component:
1) My client wants a particular order, however the date of submission should be just that, not necessarily the order. If there was an order column that would be fantastic.
2) It would be great to have testimonial categories. My client (like many others) has different services for which they receive feedback. A general testimonials section is not specific to each department. They would like the ability to categorise testimonials then assign a category of testimonial to a particular menu item.
Please don’t take this the wrong way, this is an excellent component and I really appreciate that is free.

I want to modify the error text on the Submit Testimonial Page: “Please login to submit your testimonial.” Is this stored in an HTML file that I can edit? I want to include an invitation for the user to create an account and a link to do it.

Hi Shane,
Yes you can edit it from the admin panel. Go to “Joomla Admin Panel” => “Components” => “RSMonials” => “Language File”. Then edit the language file. Here you can add some html also. But keep in mind, do not add any line break, if you wish any line break then add <br /> tag, but do not press “Enter Key”.

RSmonials is great and scroller is the coolest module for testimonials but it does not have ability to wrapping long lines of text. So in module position with overlap: hidden is cutting long lines not wrapping them. Can you fix this?

The older version of modules will work. But as we released the newer version of our modules too, we will recommend you to re-install the modules too. This will give you some more features in the module section (like showing submitter image etc.).

My website is in english, but all testimonials are in Norwegian.
I looked in the Language File of RS-Monials component, but there is only showing english.
How or where can i get the norwegian language for RS-Monials?

Hi,
Thanks to contacting us. In the admin panel the “Language File” you are reviewing, there you can set the pre-defined texts like “Your First Name”, “Your Last Name”, “Submit A Testimonial”. Now if your website is in English and in Joomla if you have only one language (i.e. English) installed, then you will only see one file on that section. You can edit that. But as per the “Testimonial Text”, it is totally depends what you enter in the “Testimonial Submit/Add” Form.
So if you have testimonial in “Norwegian” and your website language is “English” then we think the possible solution is:
1. Edit the “English Language File” as per your needs (If required here you can add Norwegian text also).
2. Then in time of adding testimonials just enter the “Norwegian Testimonial” in the “Comment” field of testimonial submission form.
Try the above, hopefully this will work. For any further query feel free to contact us.

Thanks for your comment. If you notice our component, you can see that there are no individual pages for every testimonials. A list of testimonials are displaying in a page. That’s why we provide the option to add the URL of the “testimonial list page” in the module so you can redirect users to that specific page. By the way, we are keeping your opinion in mind and surely try to implement something similar in near future.
